A great hike with Yoann to the very top of the Soufriere. A great guide with a ton of knowledge on the fauna and flora. He provided gas masks to go over the fences and be inches from the breathing crater. We had a great weather and overall and amazing experience. We would strongly recommend Yoann for his knowledge and skills.

Our family of 4 loved our 4+ hour exploration of the amazing Guadeloupean rain forest at the foot of the Le Soufrière volcano, in a group lead by Yoann, a certified mountain guide and expert botanist. Here is the description of the trek translated from French: "Aquatic hike of the Galion River: a loop half in river (feet in water) and half in forest. On the program: basins, waterfalls, gorges and rain forest. An exceptional hike reserved for good walkers. Level 4. Duration: 4h30. Price: 35 euros / pers." We followed the river, often walking up the riverbed in a foot or two of water, deep into the rain forest, through waterfalls, and eventually into a higher elevation cloud forest, exiting out through a beautiful alpine meadow. The hike was rigorous and wet, and the forest rainy and humid, but the air and the water were warm, and we we never uncomfortable. All the while, we were learning about the plants and guided by Yoann in a mix of French and English (the rest of the group was French speaking). We were happy that we choose to do the rain forest/river trek with him as our guide, and did the more travelled volcano hike on our own. If you are looking for a eco-tourism adventure in Basse-Terre, this is perfect!

We went to the top of the Soufrière volcano with Yoann. He English was good, and he proved to be quite good in telling us about the landscape as well as the history of Guadeloupe and especially (of course) the volcano and how it had affected the country-side and the country itself. A very nice visit.

We're so glad we did this hike with Yoann. We thought about canceling when we realized just how wet the hike would be, however, we all agreed that we might not have other opportunities to hike up to an active volcano. Yoann was friendly and very knowledgeable about the area, the plants, the flowers, the birds, the history, everything. His English was great which helped keep our two boys (aged 9 and 12) engaged. It definitely wasn't an easy hike in the heavy rain but totally worth it. Bring good raincoats and also wear your swimsuits underneath your clothes so you can go for a dip in the volcano warmed spring water at the end of your hike! Families with kids should plan on spending at least 4-5 hours minimum round trip.
