Enjoyed the castle ruins and the view across Cairo Montenotte!! No access by road you had to walk up gated pathway!

We wanted to see the castle that was just opened to the public we heard, but......
When we wanted to enter on a Sunday the gates were closed. Well eh....Italian way: with a wide gap on the side. So after visiting for four years without being able to see the ruins of the castle from close by (it was private property with a ferocious dog), we took our chances and entered.
We were rewarded with a beautiful view over Cairo Montenotte, were you can clearly recognize the form of the old Medieval Town with it's towers. Pity of the two blocks near the river that have been "newly build" within the Old city perimeters. Also a pity that this newly renovated place (it was just opened) was already laid to waste. The rain had washed away the gravel from the paths leaving rubble. And the stairs leading upheld been partly dislodged partly completely washed away. Rain is not something new top Italy, I guess? But maybe corruption and/or inefficiency took over. A bloody shame for a place that one stood tall and where the ruins can offer a great location for Music and shows. But with this infrastructure renewal: no way.
