The world's northernmost mainland lighthouse is located near the village of Gamvik in Norway. It is situated in the middle of a unique nature reserve, and the area is also rich in cultural heritage. The lighthouse itself is protected by the Cultural Heritage Act. Accomodation is simple but cosy. During summer, one can join a guided tour in the lighthouse tower, or have a coffee and a waffle in the little café.

Went here walking from Gamvik to the lighthouse. It's not the highseason, so everything was closed and there was a lot of snow. Very nice point to look at the sea and take pictures of the northernmost mAinland lighthouse.

This is as far North as you get in Europe by car in the mainland. A great place to stay at the old lighthouse, double rooms with breakfast available, great staff speaking English, French and German. Nice and clean rooms and sheared bathrooms in the corridor. Gamvik has a nice little grocery shop and post office, a nice museum and... More

If you can ignore the service and value for money in this place, its beautiful. Top of europe, magnificent scenery. One day a fox came to the door, unafraid like a cat. However, this seems to be run by the Gamvik municipality. It is more part of a museum (the lighthouse is on a list of protected buildings) than a... More

Dear Dr. Vogt, Thanks for sharing your experience of staying at Slettnes lighthouse. As you assume, the premises are protected as cultural heritage. The vast majority of visitors is aware of this fact before arriving, and appreciates the historic feel. So do we. On the other hand, the outrageous staff behaviour you observed cannot be excused in any way. As... More

We visited the Museum in Gamvik and found that the Museum Manager is also the custodian of the Lighthouse Keys! Followed him over to the Lighthouse as we could then claim to have driven to the very top of Mainland Europe! He opened the door and we climbed the stairs to the very top to watch the Sea Eagles soaring... More

The place and nature are unique, there is no doubt about that and no need to comment. Instead I comment the lighthouse cafe. I was happy with it as well. The menu was well thought so that you can experience there an additional bit of speciality even though the business conditions must be difficult and it is understandable that the... More

Originally we wanted to visit Slettnes Fyr in the summer. It's not so cold and not so dark as in winter, I thought. A friend of mine told me that he would like to meet a few people from Gamvik. He prefer the winter for the journey because of the possibility to see the northern lights. After some time of... More
