Striking monument
Aug 2019 • Couples
The monument is in the shape of a huge cross from whichever angle you look at it. It was constructed to commemorate those lost in World War I and subsequently those lost in World War II. There are citations from King George V, Franklin D Roosevelt, and on awarding the George Cross to the Island of Malta from King George VI. There are eternal flames burning and Maltese flags flying. It is very impressive but as it’s in the centre of a busy roundabout the traffic noise takes away the serenity of it all. You risk life and limb crossing the road to see it!

Beautiful Memorial
May 2019 • Solo
Located at the far end of The Mall Gardens and on a busy roundabout, you have to be quick if you want to cross the road and get a close view. The memorial is an obelisk. with a christian cross carved into it. On either side is an eternal flame. The area around it is perfectly manicured..

Be careful of traffic

Not far from the main bus terminal this historic reminder of past wars stands out. It is quite a normal design for such memorials but still worth a look if you're in the area.

Don' stop
Jul 2017 • Solo
What shall I say? It is in the middle of a busy roundabout. There are 'eternal' flames but they don't want to spend the money to let them burn 24 hours. The design of the 4 sided cross is interesting but if you pay attention while driving by, you have seen it all.

First drawn to this by the eternal flame
Jun 2017 • Couples
My wife and I were having a walk around the Valletta/Floriana area when we came across 'The War Memorial'. We were actually first drawn to it by the eternal flame.
It is actually positioned in the middle of a roundabout so it doesn't have the easiest of access.
The memorial obelisk commemorates the dead of World War I and World War II.
It is an obelisk in the form of a Latin Cross and was built out of limestone.
The War Memorial is just a short walk from the Valletta bus station.

Dedicated to those who died in the wars
Jul 2016 • Family
The War Memorial is located close to Valleta City Gate and you will surely pass close by or see it from afar. It was built to the memory of those who died in the WWI but after the WWII it was dedicated to all killed in both wars.
It has 4 plaques - one showing the colonial badge of Malta; another is the letter of King George V recognizing Malta's role in the WWI; the third one is the letter of King George VI awarding the George Cross to Malta; and the last one is a letter from the President Roosevelt by which he salutes Malta for its role in the WWII.
The tricky part is that it is situated in the middle of a traffic roundabout!

Not the best location
Aug 2016 • Couples
Situated in the middle of the roundabout ..... Very clean and tidy and looked after. There are lots of monuments around Valletta and Floriana and the the history buff, follow the route map and enjoy a walk around the city.

Lest We Forget!
Feb 2016 • Friends
Despite having lived in Malta and holidaying annually here,I had not visited this so moving memorial till now.The limestone obelisk commemorates 2298 Commonwealth Service men for whom there is no known grave. It is not far from the Triton Fountain and City Gate. You can see the gilded bronze Golden Eagle for miles.Stop a while to read the 4 plaques, one of which highlights the award of the George Cross to this gallant island and our greatest friends!
