Compared to the mosaics in ravenna this, for me, was a little disappointing. I have been in many churches in my years here and whilst it is undoubtedly a beautiful church you are just too far away to appreciate that it's mosaic and not painted

Attended the Mass whilst appreciating it's stunning architecture. The mosaics inside the church are glorious and in August/September time there is a brilliant light show projected onto the walls outside.

For my day trip to Ravenna from Bologna, I decided to start with the touted sight furthest away, the Basilica of San Apollinaire en Classe, about 20 minutes from the train station on the #4 bus. One of the most striking features is the amount...More

Though a friend said he liked this one best, I went to this one first because it was closest and I didn't necessarily agree that it was the best. The Ravenna area UNESCO sites are primarily Byzantine sites from around roughly 400-800AD after Rome had...More

A very old and top preserved church dating back to Byxzantine times. While situated a bit south of the city of Ravenna, you should definitely go there and visit this masterpeice of architecture.

I took the train to Classe - only 5 minutes on the regionale. It was cold and foggy and the entrance to the basilica wasn't easy to find. Inside is a huge space with the chancel the highlight - a tender portrait of Apollinare wiht...More

A bit out of the main city but worth the trip. Outside provides a feel for what I would expect most churches would have like when built, open fields and not cluttered. However an adjacent restaurant, hotel does take a little away. Inside a simple...More

We left the best for last. You need a car or bus to get here. It is about 20 mins drive outside Ravenna where the old port of classe once was. Outside the church is worth nothing. As soon as you enter you are in...More

There is not a specific guided tour of this Church, but you can buy a cumulative ticket that allows you to visit this Church + National Museum of Ravenna (+ Mausoleo of Teodorico as third option). Regards

Noi l'abbiamo visitata di sabato, so che esiste questa iniziativa del ministero. In quanto insegnante ho ottenuto lo sconto previsto, quindi credo di sì, ma non posso affermarlo con certezza.
