Lovely visit
Nov 2021
Pampus fort was amazing. We loved the ferry ride over and were lucky it was a sunny November day with a magical mist over the water, making it beautiful. On arrival at the island the people couldn't have been nicer. We got an English audio guide and followed the map given to us which showed where the audio points were. The tour was interesting and we enjoyed exploring the fort.

PLEASE if you are non Dutch like us, take cash. The ferry & island do not take any cards from overseas banks so to be able to pay you need Euros.

Adventure at Pampus island!
Oct 2019 • Family
Fun daytrip with family at this historical and romantic fort.
Games, video films, a balloon trip in the air are all possible.
Friendly staff also at the only restaurant on this island.

Something totally different!

Pampus fort island is something I have never visited before. We really loved all the audiovisuals in the fort and you could see how much time and money they have used to make it work! Restaurant with their sustainable food is wonderful too. Only minus I can think of is their audio tour.. it was hard to find the audio tour spots inside of the fort.
All in all, wonderful trip in this beautiful fort!

Poor explanation

As an English only person don.t waste your time. The audio english tour is a joke, very hard to find the contact points. The staff would tell me generally where they are but after 30 min and asking 2 docents where they are the 3rd person finally showed me one and left. Would not recommend unless you read and speak Dutch.

What a treat to take a day off from Amsterdam... take the trip to Muiden (a little tram/bus gymnastic) but well worth going to that coint town where everyone is SO nice...hop on Pampus boat ride where the Captain welcomes you with warm smile and welcoming words, enter the Island with welcoming staff and all around cool and pationate people and if you are English speaking tourist and are lucky enough, get Olaf for a guide. His passion and knowledge of history for Pampus and the Netherlands will have you wanting to spend the day with him! The restaurant is super tasty, ask the girl to do a quick translation... complete your tourit day with a visit to Muiderslot Castle in town and a beer and great food Ome Ko!

Sunday cycle ride (from Amsterdam city)
Aug 2018 • Friends
We fancied a Sunday day out on our bikes and wanted to learn more about Amsterdam and its history so we decided to cycle out to Muiden and incorporate a ferry ride out to Pampus Island.

We arrived on the island during a local event where an open water swim club were swimming around the island!

The island is small and the tour around the fort is interesting and would occupy around an hour. The restaurant attached to the fort was good and well worth a visit.

A nice educative day outing just outside Amsterdam
Apr 2018 • Family
Chances are you might find yourself in Amsterdam and have already done all the tourist highlights in the city and have some time to spare. Or, you don’t want to do the typical touristy things. If you also love history and maybe have young kids, then consider going to Forteiland Pampus.

Pampus is an island strategically located opposite al old and historically important castle in Muiden and lies in the middle of the sea entry to Amsterdam, a very important place in the late Middle Ages and Renaissance.
A fort was built here that had to guard the entry to Amsterdam, and it was actively used until the First World War, after which it was abandoned and fell in a state of severe dilapidation. A few decades back it was turned into a venue that can be visited for a day tour.
You can go by ferry from the village of Muiden in roughly 20 minutes and tickets can be either pre-booked (at least a day in advance) or even purchased on board. The island itself has a cafeteria and a few exhibitions about its history. There are interesting games and quests for (younger) kids and it boasts great views on clear days. On a sunny spring , autumn or summer day it’s a great day trip from Amsterdam.

An Adventure in between Flevoland & Muiden, you should go on!
Aug 2017 • Couples
Last summer, a few dinners were organised again at the old Defence Fort Island Pampushout. It is tiny and located in between Muiden & Almere. A boat from the organisation will take you there, you get on at IJburg, near Amsterdam, but only if you have made a reservation in advance. One advice, Dutch Summers are nice but the weather can change rapidly or it can be very cool on the water, so best advice would be, to bring something to keep you warm. When we arrived on the island, we got a little tour and a guide told us a bit about the history of the island, which is quite interesting, there is definitely more to it, than meets the eye. Then after you have been given some time, to walk around and explore the island, you can make your way to the restaurant. There are different places where you can sit, inside or outside. The evening works in a self-service kind of way and you get your drinks and food with a number that is given to you in the beginning of the evening. You can take as much as a like / crave for- it is all included in the price, apart from the drinks of course. Food is simple, but very nice and varies from meat, fish to Vegetarian options. At the end, they open a Dessert buffet and you can get whatever you like plus a nice cup of coffee before you make your way to the boat again. The sunset is beautiful out here and you feel one with nature in a way. All and all, this was a very nice evening that we all enjoyed very much. It is a night out, but very different from your ordinary dinner at a Restaurant. It is a mini Adventure but in a comfortable way. Sadly and understandably, these dinners are only organised in the Summer and like I said, you will need to reserve in advance. It is good for couples to have a romantic dinner but also with friends, family or with your kids.

Pampus Dinner
Nov 2016
Great dinner experience with friends the other nite. Was a windy, wet but adventurous nite of exploring, eating, drinking and laughing. Can't wait to do this during the summer time.

Go early with young children
Aug 2016 • Family
We took the first boat on a cloudy Sunday morning. We arrived to really friendly staff and a lovely quiet fort. It was chilly so we first had a hot beverage and then began the tour. The staff offered to give us a shortened tour because we had small children! What a wonderful, lovely surprise. The guide kept engaging the children while sharing history about the island. The kids didn't have to be quiet or still--so nice. After the guided tour we walked around ourselves for another hour and a half. There were activities for the kids and lots of information for the adults. So lovely to go to a museum where you are allowed to wander around yourself and touch things.

Afterward we had lunch at the restaurant. We found it to be reasonably priced and lots to choose from. We had caesar salad and our kids had grilled cheese.

Important info:

bring water or you can buy it there. Water from the taps is not drinkable.

Our tour was in Dutch but there are multilingual signs.

Bring a baby/child carrier--lots of uneven paths and stairs. You can store a stroller in the restaurant on the island.
