Ok so I am a chicken fan - and this did not let us down
Jul 2018 • Family
We hit Tuesday in the holidays and that is when they have chicks inside which can be handled. In fact 3 more than when we arrived as there are also eggs hatching. We also benefitted from an auction where eggs were 'bid for'.

We spent a couple of hours here, staff are enthusiastic. There are lots of different Dutch breeds outside. Inside is a little history of chickens and chicken farmers from locals to bigger production. Lots of history, and pictures for those whose Dutch is not so good.

Not for everyone I suspect, if you have kids and are in the area I would suggest you go and look at some real, live Barneveld hens and cockerels.....both white and brown.

If you're in the area it's an interesting 30-45 minutes

For non-Dutch readers, you can't glean as much from this museum's displays as you might like. If you happen to get an English speaking volunteer at the museum, I'm told it can be wonderful. I think it'd be a great place for a kid school visit.
This place really is "all things chicken." There a good historical section on the old Dutch chicken production and market and several old time incubators and shipping crates to round out that section. Live, baby chicks are in 2 or 3 displays (please don't touch, but they are cute.) There's a nice exhibit on current chicken production methods (free range vs battery, packaging a whole chicken, etc) and an even better display on how they vet "good" eggs and find the bad. There's no shortage of chicken paraphernalia to look at and even some to buy in the gift shop--egg cups, chicken pot holders, chicken towels, chicken pictures...you get the idea.
Out back there's a play area for littleuns. There's also 20 or so different kinds of live Dutch-bred chickens.
The museum has a small cafe if you're peckish. We sampled the chicken soup ;-), but you can get a variety of cold beverages, coffee, and small sandwiches.

This tour is a history lessons in Dutch egg production. Barneveld is famous for its chicken and they are proud. It's a cute tour that kids would love. They get to pick up brand new chicks !

The chicken came before the egg!
May 2014 • Couples
Everyone asks which came first, the chicken or the egg. THis museum does it;s best to try to answer this question.
There are collections of all kinds of things that have to do with egg and chicken production in The Netherlands. Its history, the machinary, the chickens of course. Also all kinds of things like egg cups.
The museum is clean, has easy access, nice coffee, a small shop.
You can spend an hour or so visiting it, but can probably listen to the volunteers for hours.
I visited the museum with a group. I do not know if you have to pay to get in.

An eggcelent egsperience!
Apr 2014 • Business
The Netherlands Poultry museum is a small volunteer run organisation for people who want to know everything about chickens, eggs and any Paraphernalia that comes with eggs/chickens.
From odly misshapen eggs, to early brood machines, to egg cups, to baby chicks, to egg auctions, to battery and free range chickens and of course various Dutch breeds of chickens.
The caffee servers good coffee with Dutch apple pie and there is a play garden for the lille ones next to the terrace. They also hire out meeting rooms for companies!
The museum shop sells, apart from a wide range of chicken and egg related articles, lovely Advocaat and fertilised eggs for home breeding!!!! Quirky and well worth a visit.
