We chose a day when the temperature was "quite nice" according to the locals. We had our warmest jackets on!! The full experience was really a special one. We stayed in Sutherland and pre-booked the tour for the morning and we were not disappointed. Payment...More

We visited for only 1 night and had booked the tour long in advance. We booked the night tour which was good although freezing. However you did not learn anything about the actual telescope. This is only on the day tour. You do star gazing...More

We booked a midday tour for our family. Our tourguide was really good, informative and cracked a few jokes with everyone. Take a camera or cell phone to take pictures of SALT and the surrounding area.

Apart from a few delays in the start of the presentation and waiting for a few straglers who couldnt get through the parking barrier, this was an excellent place to visit. The quality of exhibits at the reception centre could be improved. Our guide was...More

We learnt that star gazing is best during new or 1st quarter moon! Day time tour of S.A.L.T. is fascinating. One only wishes for an opportunity to view night skies through this massive and magnificent scope!

The purpose of visiting Sutherland was to visit SALT. Our guide was Jeremy who was excellent & knowledgeable. The tour was well conducted and lasted 90 minutes. Whilst interesting I would not recommend staying longer than necessary in Sutherland.

Pitty we could not do the night tour at SALT but the afternoon one was good and informative. Interesting to see how the telescopes are rotating.

Our group of ten from Canada enjoyed our visit to SALT! It was nice to see the telescopes on the property as well as the sweeping views from the site. An interesting visit!

SALT gives you a tour of the telescope hourly but you cannot see the stars from there. There are local star gazers in Sutherland however have telescopes you can see the stars with. Jurg is one of the locals. Runs a camp site... More

I did not do the evening tour as we wanted to go into SALT and see the actual telescope. If you go in the evening there are scientists working there so visitors cannot enter SALT. I would suggest you do the afternoon tour... More
