About
The crowd of almost thousand figures that make up the Silent People suddenly emerges before the passing motorist like some great stroke of magic. In the morning with light behind them, this motionless army appears morose, even menacing. However, as the day progresses their countenance brightens up and with the setting of the sun they present a distincly jolly and colourful picture. When the wind blows their straw hair and clothes begin to flap rhythmically, it is as if they had suddenly sprung into life.

The Silent People's surrealistic field exhibition (visit free of charge) resembles a large field of scarecrows but has a much deeper meaning... We loved wandering around, taking pictures and being surprised by the variety of all those "statues"....

We loved this place and the second surprise of the day were 3 herds of rendeer just on the highway. This is LAPLAND!!!!!

Very different kind of a place. Super delicous pancakes fried over an open fire. Souvenirs. And the field is full of odd statuelike odd art.

Do you know the feeling when you are driving from A to B, and midway you see something randomly special? The feeling when you are in middle of nowhere and you exit your vechile and are like wtf? Then you get really happy that you saw something so extraordinary. It makes you think.

This pictures The silent people well. It is a random art in the middle of nowhere. A field full of clothed scarecrows, whose clothes are changed seasonally.

It speaks to everybody in a different way. It is captivating and mysterious. A perfect art installation to wonder at. Look at it on different seasons, and it looks completely different. Marvelous. Absolutely wonderfully random and marvelous installation in the middle of nowhere.

A nice stop along the boaring highway 5. The cafe serves freshly baked stuff from the open fire wood oven. Original smoky flavours. The art doesn’t give you much though.

I have recently moved to the Kainuu region of Finland and wanted to explore my new county. This is a wonderful place to visit. I have not experienced 'ART' like this before so for my first time I was really taken away by the size! Also, (and I 'm easily spooked) it felt eerie and spooky, but I do have a vivid imagination :). Unfortunately we missed the summer season, so the cafe was closed, but I can imagine that it would be a great place to visit with kids and families. Enjoy!

This installation is very thought provoking. From a distance it looks like a field of quietly moving demonstrators of all ages. Up close the stick figures have been dressed beautifully and imaginatively. (The clothes are changed seasonally). Walking amongst the figures was very a very calming experience and made us feel quite reflective.

It´s a really ordinary place to travel. There are lots of nice souvenirs to by in the Niitty - Kahvila (Cafeteria) shop. You might want to change one of Your favorite - clothe with Your own clothe, so please remember to take an extra clothing especially for the silent people!

The fire made coffee and the pancakes are really delicious - and they are of course served on a wooden plate with the Finnish strawberry jelly - You cannot miss this place! And like this peace of art says - please take Your time, enjoy the special field view and enjoy the silent atmosphere.

Passing by on the A5, we were inmediately cought by the view on our righthand side. A crowd stood silently in the field. It appeared to be the work of an artist who made more than thousand puppets, man high, of wooden crosses, clay heads and clothing. Wonderfull, made us silent.
