Fantastic traditional Spanish food, well worth the visit. Establishment in traditional Spanish style as well. Service was “so-so”.

An amazingly historic & beautiful little pueblo nested on the banks of a bend on the río lozoya, with mountains skirting the view to the north. Stayed in the lovely little place called Hotel La Beltraneja, which was smack up against the old walled city castle.

Perfect gem of a Spanish Village- no tourist shops that we found- no one speaking English. Just a lovely unspoilt village with magnificent views around the hills and a delightful old centre. Being renovated with drainage and the castle being renovated so we could not go inside. Great walk around the walls and several information boards in Spanish/ English and German. The tourist office is most helpful and has several brochures in English so we did well. Lots of bars and restaurants- just a really pleasant place. Definitely somewhere to return to on our way across Spain. Hope it does not over develop.

I planned a trip with my partner through the Sierra and our first stop was Buitrago del Lozoya. I was bitterly disappointed with the town - quite run down (especially outside the castle area - adjacent to the city walls) and the €1 fee to visit the bell tower in the church was a complete waste. I didn't bother to pay the €2 fee for access to some of the walls, where some tourist information is available with cannons, etc. The main street is dismal, and the only interesting thing was the Picasso museum in a small square (free). I actually thought I'd be spending a few hours here but in fact I spent 2 hours (forced ourselves to walk).

They are very short and not out of this world, but for kids it would be an adventure. for people that have been to Avila for example will consider it poor.
