About
We are an innovative Islay distillery producing unpeated Bruichladdich, heavily peated Port Charlotte and super-heavily peated Octomore single malt whiskies. We use a wide range of barley types, including organic and bere, grown on a variety of terroirs including Islay. We also distill The Botanist gin. Mary at the Laddieshop will be glad to organise a tour of our distillery for you and the distilling team will happily answer any questions you may have.

Six of us did the distillery tour and we had a brilliant time. Katrina, our guide, was really friendly and informative and made is so welcome. The tasting drams in the shop afterwards went down very well with the whisky lovers as did the gin sample!

Of the neat dozen distilleries, we visited in the last week hands down one of the best. Setting aside the fact that their range of whiskeys is phenomenal, the people there were the best. The awesome ladies on the tour and the shop were passionate and honest. They really tried to make a connection with each person and made it feel super personal. Also, they let us taste a wide variety of things in the shop and helped me find a few bottles that I would not have considered otherwise. If you're on the island, this place is a must. In fact, you could skip everything else. The people here remembered that part of the love of whisky is the people you drink it with.

Every experience at Bruichladdich was wonderful. We did a tour, the Botanist cocktail experience, and a warehouse tasting. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time - they were very informative and welcoming and spent a lot of time answering our questions about this infinitely interesting distillery. We are already planning another trip back for more Bruichladdich experiences.
The whisky on the warehouse tasting was fantastic - each of the three tasters was different in a number of ways and Katrina did an excellent job taking us through each one. Sam gave us a very in-depth tour and helped us as we went around the shop buying everything we could fit into our luggage.

We visited Bruichladdich twice in one day, first for a tour and tasting, then back again after lunch for the cocktail experience featuring The Botanist Gin. Both were very enjoyable; we learned a lot on the whisky tour (it was interesting to see the similarities and differences between them and two distilleries we’d visited the day before), and then during the gin session we had another mini tour which covered distillery history not mentioned earlier in the day. The staff were all very friendly, the range of stuff in the gift shop was very nice—in fact we even purchased enough barware we had them ship it to the US for us! And if you like gin, the cocktail making workshop is great. We left with not only recipes, but mixers and more knowledge on mixology than I’d expected—not to mention the three drinks we had! We didn’t get to all the Islay distilleries on our short trip, but the next time we’re back, we’d still come back to Bruichladdich!

What a great place to visit! We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the distillery with our informative guide Catrina- learnt a lot about whisky making and saw the beautiful original pieces of equipment still used today. This was followed by generous tasting of their various special whisky’s , as well as their Gin- which most of our party enjoyed the most!

Had a fantastic afternoon being shown around the distillery by Mary, followed by a tasting session in the warehouse.
You can’t put a price on hearing all the stories and the ambience. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish.
Mary is a credit to Bruichladdich. The best distillery tour I’ve had by far. 10/10.

What a fun day. We had the distillery tour then a warehouse tasting. The distillery tour was great, Lesley who showed us around knew her stuff and answered all of our questions. And talk about perfect timing! We ran into Gilly just as he was draining a vat, and he answered our questions too; then Ian (John? Sorry 🙈) at the vault and he let us have a sip of the new make! Amazing stuff, I’d buy that if I could.
The warehouse tasting was equally as fun. Getting to sit in the draughty warehouse was quite the experience, and catriona let us pour our own tasting measures! She bet I’d love the Port Charlotte but turns out it was the Octomore that I preferred!
A great day out with some amazing people.

Brilliant Warehouse Experience tasting. Chance to try some unique whisky. Catriona was an excellent guide, three lovely drams and good group experience.
Highly recommend. Even if you have to have a designated driver, they can get the samples to take away and enjoy later.

Do you offer gin tours in October? I couldn’t book anything on the website ☹️
Thanks

Also.. this years schedules for most places on islay aren’t usually up until sometime in February. Reach out directly to them though. You may not need to use the online booking system when the schedule goes live.

What are the prices like for bottles in the shop compared to online or on the high street?
Are samples available to try (or buy)?
Thanks in advance!

The samples you could try there are nowhere else! Including prices as well.
Just go and enjoy!

Hi, I was really interested to read that you visited 8 of the distilleries and would like to find out how to go about visiting them all. There are only two of us and we'd prefer not to drive (for obvious reasons) The only tours of them all I can find are 4 or 5 day long stays. Is there a tour which would take us round them all in 1-2 days or can it be done by public transport? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you. Janice (planning to go next summer)
