great view...

over the Wachau / Danube valley. Surprisingly the place was still closed though the sign said open with March...was a bit disappointing.

Checked some websites before going but on arrival found out it is only open 9-5 on Sat Sun during November. Some good views though of valley below.

We were with a tour and arrived late afternoon for drinks and sunset. The musos were playing fun things to listen to, piano accordian & acoustic guitar sounded great. The fortress itself is many hundreds of years old, and in ruins...but held together enough that you could experience the building style and rooms, and imagine life there. The sunset was... More

It was quite an expensive entry fee but we did not realise till we took the plunge that this venue is much larger than it looks! The audio guide really brought the ruin to life although quite a few parts of the ruin are in such good condition that you reallz can see how they lived. You can drive up... More

It has been a strategic site on a high peak overlooking the Danube since the 12 century and you can see why. It has a 360 degree commanding view. This would be a tough castle to storm, if you were an attacker, which is the whole purpose I suppose. You can drive to the castle entrance and there is plenty... More

Burg Aggstein is an incredible fortress ruin, with enough intact structure that you can easily let your imagination transport you back to medieval days with knights and princeses and valor and honor. The views of the lovely Wachau Valley are wonderful. Best time to go is mid afternoon, after the tour busses and the eager beavers with their times schedules... More

If in the area don't miss this remarkable castle with great views. We were fortunate enough to have an English speaking guide for our tour. Not many are offered as I understand it but worth asking when you check in. Tour lasted about 45 min and our guide explained many details that would not normally be learned otherwise. Don't park... The Wachau Valley is a beautiful place to stay and unwind from the buzy city life. This ruin castle gives you a commanding view over the valley and Danube river. English handheld guides are only 1.50 euros and are highly recommended, all the signs are in German. Nice way to spend a couple of hours while visiting the Wachusett Valley.

I stopped here on my journey to Vienna from Linz. The castle history is nice. I recommend the translated tour unless you are can fluently read German. There are quite a few different displays and scenes that they have arranged, but the views from the top are what made the trip for me. I was lucky enough to be there... More

It was a sunny day in June and we drove up to the ruins. It has nicely been restored and it was a pleasure to walk around and see the views from the top
