Point Bonita today is part of the largest urban national park in the United States, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. A secret jewel of the Bay Area, Point Bonita is still an active lighthouse. The U.S. Coast Guard maintains the lighthouse and the National Park Service provides access to visitors. Point Bonita Lighthouse is reached by a half mile trail that is very steep in parts. Discover Point Bonita's wild landscape, geology and fascinating history. The tunnel halfway to the lighthouse is open only during visiting hours: Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Drove here on a Friday afternoon to find the lighthouse was closed (open on Sat at 12:30p). We walked the trail to the lighthouse thinking it was closed from getting inside of it, but actually you can't even walk up to it. There's a big...More

I have been to San Fran many many times, but had made a point of wanting to do this on our coastal trip from Oregon. I had it all planned out and we arrived early and waited by the tunnel entrance gate. It wasn't until...More

Short walk to lighthouse, but if you're afraid of heights, this might not be the place for you. The bridge to the lighthouse moves a bit and it hovers above the rocks and water. If you can handle it, the views are spectacular and the...More

The parking lot for the lighthouse is very small and most always full. So you will have to park near battery Alexander down the street. Also, if you like very exciting drives near high cliffs that go straight down to the ocean, go to Hawk...More

Maybe I did not read enough before visiting this attraction, but I hope this post helps some. This lighthouse is very remote and you have to wind through hairpin turns with a lot of bicyclists who don't always share the road well. The views along...More

A beautiful spot to enjoy views of the seals and an adorable lighthouse with cute bridges. You will find different options to park and be prepared for wind if you visit during cold days. Check the schedule before you visit. A great opportunity for photography.

I'm not certain biking is allowed on the actual path. It's narrow and there are people going in both directions. I'm sure you can park your bike before entering. It's really safe and many people and families visit the site.

I don't think it'd be able to. The road isn't completely paved. There is also a bridge one must cross to the actual lighthouse.
