Even if not completed, it justified a visit.

The castle is probably the most characteristic and complete treasure of this ancient medieval village, although only now beginning to be appreciated, as the restoration and recovery of the different parts advance. Built in the thirteenth Century, but totally or partially destroyed and rebuilt during last centuries, the last summer it was only possible to visit part of the structure, but what we discovered largely justified our trip. Inside the Castle, we spent one hour last August, through the different already opened rooms, following a courteous and well prepared guide that explained the history of pieces and decorations was pleasant and useful. Between others, a beautiful small theater inside the Castle, the kitchen that allows you to review the ways and customs of the past, the access to the basement where moored boats carrying fresh produce for the noble owners : each room was plenty of memories, colors, questions to be asked to the guide. A discovery this castle, that Napoleon also was probably discussing, when he stand in Valvasone during his campaign in Italy. For those who have a few hours to spend, from Udine, Venice or Trieste, it is worthwhile to reach this village, where you can admire a medieval town very well cared for and preserved , and enjoy a lunch of local cuisine in one of the small dining places typical of the Friuli plain. On more than one occasion (like in September) Valvasone is also organizing parades in costume, completing the visit with an atmosphere you can't miss.

Nice place but to be honest nothing special. Areas open for public inside the castle are boring except the small theatre that is awesome decorated and interesting to hear about its story.
