There were some issues with the guides who claimed to not know that they needed to speak English to our school group. This was disappointing. We will be giving it another chance this year, hopefully no issues this time...

Its is an historic place to visit. With the guide you can learn a lot about the history and the kind of life prisonners were treated. Of course it is easier if you understand french because almost all the guides only speak french.

Last year my husband and I brought our grandson to the Prison!! He just loved the experience! The prison was still being used a short 30 years or so ago. So memories are quite recent and very well documented. The guide his so funny. A monument of knowledge. There is a bit of walking and going up and down stairs...but... More

There were no English tours available on the day I was there (after tourist season there are far fewer tours in English than during the summer) and I was able to follow about 1/4 of the French. In spite of that, I enjoyed this tour very much.

A spontaneous decision to go on this trip proved one of the highlights of our whole holiday. Our guide was extremely well informed and passionate on his subject. The jail is really well preserved and you can really feel how the inmates must have lived. The hole/solitary confinement in the cellar terrified us all. This must certainly have prevented reoffenders.... More

This was our first visit to Trois-Rivière and we did not have much time to spend around town. The jail had very good reviews and we wanted to see it. They alternate tours in French and English. We were on the French tour, my wife had to translate for me. The tours are done by former inmates. The tour is... More

Dear Lamont1971, We are pleased to learn that you enjoyed your short stay in Trois-Rivières and took the little spare time you had to come and visit the Old Jail. Indeed, we offer English tours, but they are only a few of them per day. For that last reason, we recommend to our English-speaking visitors to call us the day... More

We took our son - he was curious. The guide was fantastic. She spoke clearly, carefully, warmly throughout (French) and handled questions well. Completely captured our imaginations. We enjoyed all the other exhibits too -- just the right amount of time for a 10 year old. Some would find a few topics grim for the age -- you'd have to... More

Very interactive visit. You actually go into all the key areas of the prison. Good guides with a lot of information. You can get into a jail cell, see where the prisoners ate, slept and spent their daytime hours. See and touch the clothes they wore and get to go in the holding cells. Fun, informative and interesting for all... More
