About
A must for art-lovers, kids and history addicts! Be amazed by this art and history museum about the work of the Ursulines of Québec, who established the first school for girls in New France and are reknown for their wonderful embroidery works. The Ursulines showed true openmindness through the centuries, adapting their teaching to their pupils and to what society needed. In the 17th Century, they gave classes to First Nations children in their own language. In the 19th Century, they were the first to include science and critical thinking in their teachings. For a complete, one-of-a-kind experience, follow a guide in the Chancel, a place usually accessible only by nuns and students.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. Take the self-guided tour. We learned so much about the nuns and the school that they ran so long ago.

Better to take a tour of monastery to immerse yourself in history and learn how first school was established in North America

I was intrigued when our Walking Tour guide told us the intricate wood carvings were gold leafed by the Ursuline nuns. The altars are beautiful. Worth a quick visit

Request a guide, which they provide if sufficiently staffed, and you'll get lots more info than on your own. The museum is especially interesting for the way the Ursulines approached the education of girls. It's a fine small museum with interesting exhibits; just the right size to be entertaining and not overwhelming.

In the last 28 year prepandemic, we would visit Old Quebec at least once a year and we’re always been busy with outdoor activities and good food! But today is cold and warrants an indoor activity while the family went skiing.
I chose the Pole because of their history of educating girls! Not only did they achieve their goal but their vision to even introduce STEM to girls of that century is quite amazing.

Thanks to Louisette and Vincent for a wonderful afternoon! I will be back to see the chapel on my next trip! Merci et au revoir!

In this chapel you will find the graves of Montcalm and the woman who founded the order of nuns here in the 17th Century. This church is very old and is tastefully decorated. Free to enter.

Having no knowledge of the Ursulines, I spent my time in the museum. They were dedicated to the education of young girls at a time when educating girls was considered unnecessary. The artifacts were unusual and interesting.

Audio tour of the Chapel was interesting and informative. Audio tour explains the origins of the chapel and the history behind the ursuline sisters in Quebec City. Chapel itself was very ornate and in very good condition. Lasted about 45 minutes. Price of $15 each was slightly steep for a 1 hour tour. You actually have to pay individually for the chapel tour the outdoor tour and the museum which taken all together is upwards of $50.
