We came to Quebec City, specifically to learn more about its historic fortifications. The Martello Towers (three out of four left) are part of the Fortifications National Historic Site but are not close to each other. We found Tower 1 on the Plains of Abraham,...More

Its a small compact site but is well restored and is set up with displays that give it an authentic feel. The kids enjoyed exploring the several levels and learning about the function of the tower.

We did this on our own, using the iPads provided at the Tower. It was an interesting introduction to local history, and presented in a way that would be fun for kids.

Three of the original four remain, and one may be toured. They are typical of the many towers built by the British in the 1800’s. They were much sturdier than the Block houses they replaced. The one near the river offers nice views.

This tower was one of four built. There are 3 left. We drove by on our caleche tour. The upstairs had a gun platform and the main floor could hold an army unit inside. This tower was built by the British and for defence.

We saw the Martello Tower on the Plains of Abraham when we walked to see the Joan of Arc statue. This is where the Canadian Army stored their ammunition.

There are very impressive and easy to find in the park. The walk to them is easy and very pleasant on a beautiful day. The park itself is worth a visit. You should take the Avenue George V in the park for an easier shorter...More

After a rather disappointing visit to the Battlefields Museum which was all rather confusing the visit to the Martello Tower on the same ticket was a revelation. The concept of the towers and how it is now presented using ipads was very impressive. Some of...More
