Saw the Nutcracker (Casse-Noisette) at Place des Arts last night. The show is really impressive (dancers, decor, lighting...). Yes the tickets are rather expensive, but you have to see it once in your life. Beware, the show is long, especially after the break so little kids might just fall asleep at the night show. Perhaprs look for a matinee show... More

My husband and I attended the afternoon showing of The Nutcracker, over the weekend, and loved it! We had both seen this classic of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, when we were kids and we were so excited to go see it again, as adults. The dancing was quite beautiful and the decor was spectacular and really impressive! From the second... More

if you're in Montreal in December you must go see the Nutcracker (Casse-Noisette). Although I wouldn't suggest bringing children under the age of 8 just because the show is 2 hours long and if they get restless they are ruining it for other patrons (like the family with the 3 year old sitting behind us)... Les Grands Ballets Canadiens is... More

The Artistic Director, Gradimir Pankov is brilliant and over the past 14 years, has made Les Grands Ballets a world class company. This original ballet by renowned choreographer Stijn Celis was dedicated to Maestro Pankov who has done so much to enhance and modernise the ballet world. We enjoyed the skilled performance immensely. However, my very favourite of their ballets... More

Les Grands Ballets are the company to see if you want to see ballet at its absolute best. I have seen all the premier companies of the world perform, and I would rank them in the top 5. The complete attention to the artistic whole of the productions is superb. Even if you have been to the Nutcracker over 100x... More

Definitely a world-class organization. If you enjoy ballet, you will not be disappointed. Montrealers are spoiled by the variety of good cultural entertainment to be had in their city.

It has been a long time but fond memories of The Nutcracker Suite at Place des Arts hold a special place in my heart at Christmas. A must see for anyone and at anytime.

Staying in Quartier des Spectacles

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier des Spectacles
The bar-none entertainment district for music and arts, Quartier des Spectacles is an interactive playground that delights the senses. It totals over 30 performance halls, with the vibrant Place des Festivals at its heart. The outdoor event space features glowing towers, glass edifices, and granite-lined bike paths, and hosts annual festivals, concerts, and comedy nights. The cinema, theatres, and exhibition centres are entwined with external art projects, exemplified at Montreal's Contemporary Art Museum and appearing along every walkway of the Promenade des Artistes in the form of sculpture and public works, from digitally-enhanced swingsets to glowing fountains. Design, performance, and alternative music come together here, a stone's throw from the lively Latin Quarter along Rue Saint-Denis, the quintessential after-party spot for dinner and a drink following a day of jazz, poetry and play.
