The four of were off of the Celebrity Summit. We did a lot of walking and we came upon Government House. We walked about the grounds and into the garden. The weather was exceptional for October. A pleasant visit indeed.

Government House or Fanningbank is the Official Residence of the Lieutenant Governor of PEI since 1834. The house is only open to visitors in July and August. Guided visits are provided in both French and English. The house is full of early Canadian history and is fascinating. It hostes more than 20 Royal visits throughout its history and still functions... More

The view is beautiful. If you can get in the house it is worth a visit also - For PEI it is great - as good as many of the mansions that we have visited over the years. The grounds are worth seeing - especially when the flowers are in bloom. A relaxing visit and I would recommend sitting on... More

Was lovely to walk around the grounds, enjoy the breathtaking view and read some history in the carriage house!

A nice formal building used for special government functions and provides residence for visiting members of the Royal Family on their visits to P.E.I. The grounds are open to the public and can be enjoyed by all. An history of the property and its various residents is housed in the gatehouse.

OK. the house isn't anything all that special. At least, not compared to many of the vice-regal or regal residences we've seen over the years. But what a setting! Overlooking the water with lovely, well-maintained gardens. Worth a walk about. Our guide was charming but her attempt at doing a French language version of the tour was a bit stilted,... More

the entire grounds are beautiful & a nice area to relax & 'smell the flowers'. The gatehouse has good historic displays.

We were lucky enough to visit on the final day of house tours. Our guide was enthusiastic about the property and very informative. The grounds were lovely too. Sat on the veranda enjoying the sunshine and the view we felt very happy to be on PEI.

The home is only open a few times a year when the Governor isn't in residence. So we were not able to see inside the residence but were able to walk on the grounds and the flower garden. Very well maintained grounds.

I was surprised that the Government house looked as bad as it did. We were told that they were renovating but it would take a whole makeover to do it right.
