The Princess of Wales Theatre is a 2000-seat playhouse built by the father and son producing team of David and Ed Mirvish, just a block away from their historic Royal Alexandra Theatre. The Princess of Wales is the first privately owned and financed theatre built in Canada since 1907 - and the first anywhere in North America in over 30 years. Construction began on August 6, 1991, and the building opened to the public with the musical Miss Saigon on May 26, 1993.The theatre was built with maximum flexibility in mind. Its stage is one of the widest and deepest in North America - large enough to accommodate the most spectacular theatrical productions - and its technical facilities are state-of-the-art.

I had purchased these tickets for my son in law and daughter, as a Christmas gift. They truly loved it. My son in law got picked to go on stage. They just loved the show, and said they would love to see it again. They just couldn't stop talking about it

What a wonderful show! The theatre was beautiful. Great location, conveniently accessible by TTC, and easy to get around in the theatre. The show was magnificent and truly a spectacle.

One day trip and two theatres -- Matilda and The Illusionists -- excellent entertainment. Five of us attended. Need to plan ahead. The seating was good. The view was good. Two different types of entertainment but both were very enjoyable. Supper at Lone Star and the meal was very good. Good friends and good times made for a wonderful trip.... More

Went here to see the Illusionists, a magic show. It was highly entertaining, and worth the money we paid for it.

I love the wonderment of magic and was not disappointed, this is not your rabbit out of a hat show. The large screen made it possible for everyone to see. The staff at the theatre were wonderful and seated us as soon as possible because we were four minutes late due to finding parking. Hint, leave earlier than planned.

The Princess of Wales theatre is an excellent venue. Our only complaint was that they cheapen the whole experience by selling popcorn. Popcorn doesn't belong in a live theatre performance. The only thing it does is give people the go-ahead to mess up what is an otherwise beautiful theatre. By the time the show was over, the entire floor resembled... More

You would think that the back balcony would be the lowest quality spot in the house... wrong. **Under the balcony** is the lowest quality seating area. Reason: I have been to a few shows now where there are things to see (performers or a screen) high on the stage area, but you can't see it because the balcony is hanging... More

I want to start off by saying they are all very talented and I wish them all the best in their careers. The princess of whales theater is very nice and the staff was very friendly. My husband and I went out on a date night and decided to enjoy ourselves at the show. With that being said we also... More

Staying in Downtown West

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
