The Princess of Wales Theatre is a 2000-seat playhouse built by the father and son producing team of David and Ed Mirvish, just a block away from their historic Royal Alexandra Theatre. The Princess of Wales is the first privately owned and financed theatre built in Canada since 1907 - and the first anywhere in North America in over 30 years. Construction began on August 6, 1991, and the building opened to the public with the musical Miss Saigon on May 26, 1993.The theatre was built with maximum flexibility in mind. Its stage is one of the widest and deepest in North America - large enough to accommodate the most spectacular theatrical productions - and its technical facilities are state-of-the-art.

Home from "The Book Of Mormon". What a hilarious, entertaining show. The theater is beautiful and the customer service is second to none. the seats are generally comfortable and I'm not sure there is a bad seat in the house. Drinks and snacks are available and a little costly as you would expect in a place like this but you're... More

Been here a couple of times to watch mama mia, lion king, and most recently cabaret. Great place. Decor is nice. SEats are in the small side but if it is the original seats then it is no surprise. Staff are helpful and professional. Never had a bad experience with the theatre. We enjoy all the shows we went to.

Great show! drove up by noon, had Brunch around the corner, easy access to everything. Theatre was easy to get to, parked in the underground parking. Friendly Staff. Lots of choices for restaurants within walking distance. Show was amazingly funny...graphic for some but not outrageous. Overall great experience!

I had a great time at the theatre attending the Book of Mormon performance! I will admit that anyone easily offended by explicit language and crude messages may not like this show, but the theatre was fantastic! There are always other shows so I urge you to check it out.

We had an incredible experience seeing The Book of Mormon for the first time at The Princess of Wales Theatre. Plenty of restaurants within a short walking distance from the theatre. The performance was outstanding- a definite must see. A lovely evening in the city!

We went here to see the Book of Mormon which was awesome. The sound and acoustics and cozy feel of the theatre were awesome. Every staff person we encounter was courteous. The only issue we had was when we went to leave. It was of course post show. And we had to use the elevator to get to the parking... More

Staying in Downtown West

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
