Home to the subtitled set, the Carlton plays films -- many of them superb -- that frequently don't see the light of day anywhere else. Many of the offerings originate in France, Italy, Russia, or China; there's also a smattering of independent North American films. Buy tickets early on weekends.

This is absolutely my favourite theatre in Toronto. I've been here a few times to see different types of shows (adventure/crime/suspense and action/adventure). The sound in the theatres both times was really good, but my favourite part was the screen size. I really do like...More

Some good selection and some well-themed retro nights. Not a state of the art theater, but enough of its original character remains to keep this one afloat in the busy downtown Toronto movie theater market.

We go to films at this theatre regularly and it's definitely the best in the city. We tend to avoid the big, corporate theatres. This is a small, independent cinema with a personal feel.

Went here for the premiere of a relative's movie and had a great experience. Love the fact that it was a smaller cinema. The seats were quite comfy, the theatre was very clean. The snacks were tasty and fairly reasonable. Would go back more often...More

Great cinema experience! Quite different from British cinemas, worth taking a look. Don't try the buttered popcorn.

We regularly go for $5 Tuesdays - and it's great. It's a little quant cinema right in the centre of Toronto. They play good films and have unique screening events. A great find in Toronto.

Movies that do not play in regular theatres or that have played for very short periods in regular theatres. Small theatres but convenient to subway and good video and audio.

Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination
for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip

flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities,
with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to
Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of
