This was such a great day trip! I got a cheap ferry ticket and hopped onto one of the three ferries that head to the island. I recommend the line all the way to the left or right. That way you can walk towards the middle of the island once the 10 minute ride or so is over. There are... More

Ward's Island offers a cottage-like charm, with outdoor cafe, a beach, playing field, picnic tables, public washrooms, a boardwalk, many photo opportunities, and there are bike and trolley-cycle rentals from Center Island, which connects with both Ward's Island and Hanlan's Point, which offers both a regular beach, plus a clothing-optional beach. There are amusements & rides offered at Center Island.

Had enough of the city? Take a short boat ride to bliss town! You can look back at the amazing sky line whilst hearing the birds and the lake shore crashing onto the sand. The crystal blue waters lap at your feet as you then walk through what feels like empty forests in the safest place ever. You can walk... More

The islands have a gorgeous view of Toronto and they offer a great place for a walk. The ferry is frequent and quick. At the time of year we were there there wasn't much open on the islands but nevertheless we really enjoyed our visit. I can imagine it would be much more vibrant at other times of the year... More

Its a great place to spend time with friends and family. Nice in summer but in winter it could be chilling.

Ideal place to relax. one can take water taxi or ferry. Reading book in open garden or playing with kids is popular activity out there. For photography there are many natural spots for birds or even capturing Toronto skyline.

So all I got to offer as advice. Bring a lunch. Set aside cash for kayaks, canoe, boats, bikes, trains. It's pricey but good for a blaze, beer, BBQ, music. All ages can fulfill some entertainment. Don't forget about the birds.

Even though visited in November when a lot closed, including the toilets! A great escape on a sunny winters day. One restaurant open for brunch which was very good.

A shot $7.50 ferry ride from Downtown to a secluded paradise. A nice stroll through foliage along the lake. I can imagine summers are a bit different. Nice for a nice stroll or bike ride. Definitely worth exploring for the amazing city views.

An almost instant escape from the city's hustle and bustle, with a great view back to the city. Especially in the summer, there are few better ways of spending a day (or part of one) in the country without leaving town. Excellent beaches, lovely walks, and easy biking.

Staying in Downtown West

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
