Some fun local history, but the main draw here is the Canal viewing platform, particularly interesting if a ship is traversing the locks at that time. Most people don't realize how close this technological marvel is to Niagara Falls, because if they did this place would probably be packed.

Its all about the Welland Canal. Its an amazing location for viewing, learning, and families to spend together. The museum is clean and has much to see. One of the greatest highlights will be the Lock filling and lowering large frieghters!! You will need patience as it takes a short bit of time for the locks to fill. There are... More

Situated on one of the Lockgates on Welland canal, this donation-entry museum housed a surprisingly impressive collection of artefacts and exhibits that detail the history entrenched in this region. As an international traveller, I found this was a great focal point to learn about Niagara's past. There are items from both World Wars, along with a section dedicated to the... More

Very clean and well laid out museum with free parking and clean restrooms as well as a very nice shop. The displays are very interesting and fully descriptive. Lots to see and not crowded.

The museum has an excellent collection of local history especially information pertaining to the various Welland Canal projects. There are regular "features" of various significance, most recently on the city's contribution to the war effort. It is also used as a meeting place for various groups including the Historical Society of St. Catharines. Staff are friendly and helpful and often... More

If you do not know about lock, this is the perfect place, the restoration they did the last few years make it place not to mist while in Niagara region.

Was surprised that the upstairs of the museum is available for a get-together of up to about 100 people, where food can be catered in. It was great for a birthday party.

The museum is a great place to learn the history of St. Catharines. It was very impressive and I couldn't believe that it was free! You also can watch the huge freight ships use the canal locks which is very interesting to watch. Whenever I have company, this is the first place I will take them! Highly recommended!
