Book ahead and take the tour, usually about 15 people in a group, bilingual. Such interesting history and opulence.

We thought we were being taken to join another tour in progress, but ended up with a private tour with Sara, who was so full of knowledge! The “tent room” and the story behind it was most interesting.

Wonderful grounds, over 10,000 Maple and Oak trees and the interior of the residence is small but spectacular, especially the ballroom and reception room for state dinners with visiting heads of state.

No entry fee, but you have to call ahead to reserve. I don't remember if we had to show ID or not. No parking, so you park on a street in the general neighbourhood and then walk to Rideau Hall.
