Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Every time I’m in Halifax I take a trip across the Harbour to Dartmouth. Sometimes I go to Woodside, other times I go to Alderney. On a warm, sunny day it’s wonderful to sit top deck and admire the Halifax skyline and watch the other boats going by. Although it’s a short trip, I always feel like I’m going somewhere far away.

Operated by Halifax Transit and costing less than $3 CAN, the ferry that connects Halifax and Dartmouth is an inexpensive way to get a beautiful harbour view on a pleasant sunny day and visit the twin cities. The ride is about 10 minutes long.

We found this trip to be a highlight. Very easy to get to. Very reasonable ticket and we were able spend the afternoon in Dartmouth.

On a warm summer evening(after the sun has set), take the ferry from Halifax to Dartmouth to view the light of the Halifax skyline. Make sure you get a transfer when you pay your fare, for the return trip back to Halifax. A fantastic view for s tiny amount.

The easiest way to access both waterfronts. Halifax is a walking city, leave the car on the Dartmouth side with lots of parking and hop on the Ferry to explore Halifax.

Not really an attraction per se. Nice enough ferry, and the view of the harbour is ok, but it's not a huge attraction or anything.

Took this 25 minute boat ride to Darthmouth and back, it was November and 23c outside, very warm for this time of year, great view, highly recommend, and very affordable. Less than $3 per person.

Definitely better and easier to find parking on the Dartmouth side and take the ferry across. Fantastic views and my kids enjoyed the "boat ride". Clean ferries, frequent trips

I hope someone can help me!!
I’m cruising from Boston to Nova Scotia, P.E.I.and Quebec. I’ve been told that if I’ve had a DUI or drug charge that I could be denied entry into these ports. My DUI and drug (possession of less than 1 oz of marijuana) charges were from 2003. Over 20 years ago. Will I be denied entry?

We shall arrive on 13/9 after having completed NW Passage and would like to spend 2 or 3 nights in Halifax in a central location suitable for walking around town and catching bus tours before flying off to Europe. Can u recommend 1 or 2 suitable hotels. Holiday Inn pricing normally fits us. Thanks. Gc

There are at least 10 hotels right downtown. Most are with the Marriott chain but different amenities and prices. No Holiday Inn downtown but a few blocks away the former HI is an Atlantica which is probably still at the HI price point because it’s not downtown. The map should help showing its location in terms of the others.
Can one park a 28ft class C RV in the Dartmouth ferry parking lot?

Unfortunately not as the Dartmouth terminal is right in the down town area and parking (for anything) is hard to find. However the Woodside terminal has a mall about a block away with a good parking lot.

Hi,
How safe is it to park in and around the Alderney Ferry Terminal in Dartmouth

Whitby, Canada82 contributions
well, I live in Toronto, and when you are in Halifax people driving come to a full stop in order to let pedestrians cross the road, so I think it is safe like any other place to park. Enjoy, relax

Currently only service dogs are allowed, although a regional city counselor has suggested that all dogs be allowed to ride the ferry.

There is an inexpensive lot right by the ferry terminal. Google Halifax Ferry Dartmouth Parking for directions and costs
