Peggy’s Cove & Halifax

6 reviews
Why not combine our two most popular tours into one? See the sights of the historic port city of Halifax and then take in the famous breathtaking sights of Peggy's Cove.

Our tour would commence from Pier 21 with its Historic block as the "Ellis Island" of Canada, where more than one million immigrants came through and more than 500,000 left from during WWII.

From there we will visit St. Paul's Church, the oldest Anglican church in Canada. As well, St. Paul's Church was among some of the buildings that withstood the Great Halifax Explosion of 1917. We will drive on to Fort Needham Hill where a memorial carillon was built for the victims of that explosion. Then we'll be on to Canada's most famous lighthouse.

Peggy's Cove is one of the most unique, captivating and exhilarating eye-openers in Nova Scotia. The quaint seaside hamlets of Shad Bay, Big Lake, East Dover and West Dover, to mention but a few, are also breathtaking.

Quite amateurish, interesting only insomuch as the benefactor was Anna of King of Siam notoriety. Nice 'space'...perhaps made better by attending an 'opening'? Pictures give you a sense youve reached right neighborhood

This gallery is a fantastic place to mull and peruse the art of young, inspired individuals testing waters and pushing boundaries. Three galleries are devoted to the exhibition of art, craft and design with new work opening every Monday at 5:30 p.m. In 1887, to commemorate Queen Victoria’s golden jubilee year, Leonowens suggested founding an art school, which came into reality as the Victoria School of Art (later to morph into NSCAD). In 1968, this gallery at NSCAD was dedicated to Anna Leonowens.

The Anna Leonowens is a long standing Halifax gallery exhibiting the work of NSCAD's students, staff, and faculty. Always busy on "opening nights" with friends and colleagues offering support for what is often a student's first exhibition. (Snacks are an added incentive for "starving arts students".) Other times, you are able to spend as much time as you wish without any time pressures. Displays cover all different mediums, and are often pushing accepted boundaries, so, obviously, not all shows will be of interest.

The Anna Leonowens gallery actually consists of three separate galleries that display the work of NSCAD students, faculty and staff. The main focus is that of student presentations. The works rotate mostly weekly, although graduate students acquire the exhibition spaces for two-week periods, to mount and defend their final thesis projects. Because of the diversity of works, some will appeal to you, some will not, some you will find incomprehensible...the benefit of being exposed to an art college.
