After lining up while maintaining social distancing to board the 'paddle wheel' to the Island, we get a great view of the city's waterfront before disembarking on the Island. The provided brochure describes the various points of interest on the Island, from the Submarine Mining Establishment through Fort Charlotte and the Lighthouse. The highlight though is the tour of the tunnels under Fort Charlotte. Because of COVID, the tour is guided with a limited number of participants, so one gets to easily hear all of the tour guide's commentary. The Parks Canada interpreters/reservists were all helpful in answering questions to the best of their ability. And one gets great and different views of both the Halifax and Dartmouth waterfronts.…

My friend and I were only able to book the 4pm departure time to visit the island this summer. We were assured we'd have at least an hour to visit, which seemed short but enough. We really enjoyed our visit and loved the signage and the tunnel tour, but we were very disappointed that we were only allowed 35 minutes before being asked to board the return boat. I would discourage anyone from booking the 4pm departure unless the hours are extended. It just wasn't enough to see all the sites and I don't feel I got the full value from my ticket.…

After many years George's Island is now finally open to the public. The $25 price for an adult may seem a bit high but it includes the boat ride from down town Halifax and admission to the park which is owned by Parks Canada. The island has a lot of history and is a nice picnic area with lots of picnic tables and chairs. There are short tours of the tunnels in Fort Charlotte and you can just wander the island taking in amazing views of Halifax and Dartmouth. It's a family friendly place but unfortunately currently not very accessible for the physically challenged. I'm told that for the 2021 season there'll be more things open on the island. …

I am happy to say that I finally had a chance to go tour George's Island. The ride over was gorgeous. Moving along slowly aboard the open air top deck of Harbour Queen on a gorgeous sunny day is a wonderful way to see the Halifax Waterfront. The Island itself is not very large. There are no amenities other than two clean outhouses so bring any water or snacks that you may want with you. You will be given a descriptive map to help with your self guided exploring of the historical site. There is not a tremendous amount of stuff to see but it is worth seeing. The best part is they do offer a guided tour of the tunnels. It runs every few minutes so easy to catch. Definitely the highlight. All in all a great way to spend an afternoon. Even if your not much of a history buff the views of Halifax from the Island are quite spectacular. During our visit tCMA CGM Brazil, the largest container ship to ever call on a Canadian port and one of the biggest ships in the world happen to be along side so we also got an awesome view of it!…
