We spent most of a day in this art gallery, eating lunch in the onsite cafe. We were pleasantly surprised. The art gallery is laid out well, with a great variety of types and styles of artwork without it seeming cluttered at all. There is space to stand back and view a work from a distance or get up close to see details and information about each item. We learned about Maude Lewis, but this gallery displays so much more than just her work. Despite making a few trips to Halifax in the past, we had never visited the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia before. We are glad we did on this trip! If you enjoy art, it is definitely worth spending at least a couple of hours here while you are in Halifax.…

First time in Halifax & accidentally found the art gallery. Front counter staff were exceptionally kind & welcoming. They showed me a map & clearly explained the layout of the gallery. I was pleasantly surprised to find out Maud Lewis’s house was on display. The gallery is small yet laid out beautifully with pleasant lighting & choices of wall paint. I just wish staff were on hand to answer questions. I was allowed to take pictures. Be sure to visit the gift shop. I’m going back to Halifax in May with friends & will definitely bring them to the gallery. Great rates & lovely artwork.…

Seeing her house was truly an experience, from so little...a great treasure of Nova Scotia. I enjoyed the other galleries as part of our day. I believe all the family would enjoy this experience, partly because of her little house and certainly her collection.…

The Art Museum of Nova Scotia is a manageably sized and distinguished art museum featuring the works of Nova Scotia artists. Its original building is now connected to its modern addition by underground passageways. The collection is not mindbending, but it is a very pleasant way to spend a few hours.…
