I'm a big fan of seafaring history, and this place was amazing. Tons of great and informative displays, including lots of artifacts that really help you understand what life was like at sea, and in a seaport such as Halifax in days gone by. Halifax as a city is defined by its history as a port, and this museum is... More

A really excellent museum located right on the Halifax waterfront, with an eclectic display of maritime artifacts dating back hundreds of years. A great place to spend a couple of hours wandering around, especially when a snow blizzard is raging outside!

It's worth it just to see the Halifax Explosion and Titanic exhibits. Excellent assortment of model ships dating back as far as two hundred years! Will recommend to our visiting friends for sure!

Interesting history of Halifax. The history of the great explosion was also very captivating (forgot which year, but was early 1900's or late 1800's - I think:)

To me, the best exhibits were the Halifax Harbor explosion and the Titanic. The Halifax Harbor explosion exhibit was extremely moving and informative. I had never heard of this until we reached Nova Scotia. It was a tragic incident. The Titanic exhibit was also great. The survivors went to New York, but all the dead were taken to Halifax. Halifax... More

The Maritime Museum offers a good overview with exhibitions on the major historic events to the more obscure. The two major exhibition are the Halifax Explosion and Titanic, both these are excellent with documentaries on both. Excellent exhibit on Cunard and at the time of my visit one on Sir John Franklin and the discovery the first of his lost... More

We are fascinated, as are many others, by the RMS Titanic story and Halifax's part in that story is sad as the bodies taken from the ocean were brought to Halifax on board the cable-laying ships stationed there. This maritime museum has an excellent feature on the Titanic and the town's role in the tragedy, but it reveals far more... More
