Experience an exciting part of Canada's history by visiting this 19th-century fort with a sweeping view of downtown Halifax. Between May and October, the Citadel is brought to life by two historic regiments of the British Army - the pageantry of the 78th Highlanders and the precision of the Royal Artillery thrill visitors daily with live re-enactments. The skirl of the bagpipes mixes with the crack of a rifle and the assembly of recruits for the next foot drill. There's no shortage of authentic experiences to view and participate in! Kids will love the Xplorers Program - an activity book just for them. When the sun sets, it's time to experience the other side of the Citadel - join the Citadel Ghost Walk and experience the dark and errie lore from the early 1800's. Tours start mid-July and run every Friday and Saturday nights starting at 8:30pm until the end of October. Cash at the front gate.

Soldiers in period dress. They were doing training, which was either real, or a very effective re-enactment. Great views of the city and harbour. They fire off a cannon at noon. Enjoyable.

Very well preserved and interesting. A must see in Halifax. The young people that are working there which we encountered were very willing to leave you with some good information.

This is a must see sight in Halifax. The views alone would make it one of the top sites but of course, it's really about the history here. The staff were all so helpful and knowledgeable. They told the story of the citadel with enthusiasm....More

Gives a good insight into Halifax's past. The museum is free this year as part of the 150th celebration. A stunning vantage point for the surrounding area, as you would expect. Helpful guides and interesting museum.

Great views, great tour, great opportunity to learn and experience an important part of Canadian history including bagpipe and gun firing demonstrations! It was fun to learn what it was like for the soldiers to live and work in this historic fort.

I believe so. There weren't signs saying not. Maybe not great when the cannons go off.
Is site wheelchair accessible? Is there an area for a caregiver to provide care in privacy(respiratory Tx, tube feeding, diaper change)?

Hello, I just contacted Citdel Hill and the fort regarding your second question. They have public washrooms only. But, she stated their is a coffee shop on site which has a bit more privacy. Hope this helps.
