The Evergreen house is tucked away in a more residential area near downtown but is well worth finding as it tells a good story of the James and Crighton families who lived here and gives a good insight into life in Dartmouth in years gone by.

The Evergreen House, restored Victorian home built in 1867, is a registered Heritage Property in the Halifax Regional Municipality. It is beautifully furnished with period antiques, a gift shop, and a (seasonal) delightful, exquisite afternoon tea. Your visit will likely be met by a knowledgeable, very well informed, welcoming guide. The home is sited with a beautiful panoramic view of the Halifax Harbour. The staff represents a superb stewardship and respect of history so lovingly preserved and contained within the home, and deep within their heart. I heartily recommend visiting the Evergreen House! Particularly interesting to a native of Dartmouth or close surrounding area. Exhibits well displayed and guide very knowledgeable and interesting. You are also permitted to roam around on your own, if so desired. there is a rumour that this Museum may be closed which would be a great loss to the area and to anyone researching the early history of Dartmouth.…

Thank you for your review. We were closed for a few months in late 2015/early 2016 but are open now! Tuesday-Saturday from 10 am-5 pm (closed 1-2 pm on Saturdays).

This home is located on Newcastle Street in Dartmouth. It contains many original Victorian period pieces. This summer there is a bridal dress exhibit. It is very interesting to see the styles of years gone by. It is a timely exhibit since there are many new brides this time of year. They have very knowledgeable staff that will do a personal tour with you. The admission is a mere $2.00…
