Decently sized market with plenty of vendors! Loved the historic venue with the high ceilings. It was extremely quiet when we arrived; however we were also visiting early in the morning in February, so I imagine it would be more inhabited during the summer. We stopped at Slocum & Ferris for a breakfast bagel — wonderful bagel and hash browns for a reasonable price. I would definitely visit again.

I have always loved the City Market, Fresh Vegetables and local meat. I loved all the vendors there! Unfortunately many vendors are gone and have not been replaced, Baleman's was a staple there for many years, when they left there was nobody to replace them. The Saturday market has lost a lot of good vendors as well. I am hoping that it will be the jewel it once was....I would still recommend visiting for those who have never experienced the Market, as it is rich in history.

I visited this market with my wife. It was very nice to see all the crafts people were selling. We bought paintings from a lady who was selling water colored versions of sketches her husband had done. She was such an adorable person! She gave us many additional gifts for free and a discount on the painting. We also bough orange essential oil from an old British guy and a hummingbird made of cristal from another girl. It's surprising the many beautiful things people create.

This is such a homely lovely place to visit even in the rain as we had. Hampton Creators has whimsical jewelry handmade from flowers and maple leaves. The Butcher's Daughter has jewelry and masks and pottery to just cherish. I bought these sealing wax earrings, and one pair or ring/necklace nicer than the last, hard to choose. AND the duck/soap lady was a HOOT, and I shall have new ducks to leave on our ships to surprise people with and also OATCAKES, handmade treats and eats and the cat/dog toys for pets lady, what a sweetie. Highly recommended.
GO, the reversing falls are ok, but catch a video, in the rain? You can't beat this fun place with such great merchants. Felt like visiting friends. PS I wrote a poem called "The Toff and The Roof Tiler's Daughter" and in France we at at the Baker's Wife, so high marks to the name of that shop.

We booked a "bucket list" tour of St John, which stopped at this market. It was quaint, charming, and delightful.
If you are looking for items not available in the States, then I would recommend the Nainamo Bars and the smoked meat sandwich.

Incredibly pricey for a farmers market. The produce looked fresh but since we stopped at a cruise ship we did not purchase anything. The T-shirts and other trinkets that people were selling were priced incredibly high for a farmers market which was disappointing to us.

I enjoyed stopping by here on a recent trip. I had already eaten, and wished I hadn't! There were some delicious smelling foods being made including fresh pasta, Lebanese food, and Korean food among many others. This is also a nice place to shop for souvenirs. I got some nice items from Fiddling Ferns - screen printed bags, napkins, tea towels and such. The artist herself was there. They also have a place you can try local beers and there is a seating area. They have many jams, honeys, mustards and sauces for purchase but as I am traveling by air without checked luggage, I didn't buy any.
On some nights, there is an evening market directly beside the building with outdoor food stalls and artisans.

This is a farmers’ market on steroids! Acres of anything and everything one want, even things one doesn’t want☺ Kid in a candy store cliché ring a bell? There are, of course, fruits, veggies, baked goods, and a host of other food items. Kitschy gifts galore, and many useful items are available. The market is on several floors and corridors lead to separate specialty businesses. I found it overwhelming, but enjoyable.

It is an interesting place to visit for the first time. Lots of activity and all sorts of vendors here. The 2 highlights was the building/setting itself and of course all the seafood vendors here. That's what drew us here. Other than that its really just another market place.
Worth a quick visit especially if you want some fresh seafood take home.

what a sad sad place to visit. I expected more. Supposed to be open daily to 6 but when we arrived at 3, half the stalls and places were closing for the day or had already shuttered. This was a summer Friday afternoon. As a visitor, we were disappointed and let down. So much potential but more like a wasted space of what once was in my opinion.

Do the (most) of the vendors take credit card as payment? Or do they require cash?
Written 8 November 2022
The smaller vendors prefer cash, but the majority will accept many payments forms. I used cash for the only purchase I made, as I cannot be sure of foreign transaction fees and/or conversion rate. Both Canada and the States are going to a cashless society. It's sad if you plan a visit there in the winter. Five Canadian couples own homes along my street, as wintertime residences. Three couple arrive next week, two wait until after Christmas. The grandchildren, you know?

Will the Market be open on Sunday, May 14?

Unfortunately we do not open on Sunday's. Most of our vendor's are family run businesses and Sunday is the only day they have off.
I hope you can make it in another day. :)

I was thinking of moving to Saint John ,NB and I have my own Candle Business.
They are soy Wax Melts & Novelty Candles. Do you think that would be great for the Market.?
Thank You and look forward to hearing back from you. Also have a Happy Easter to everyone at the Farmers Market.

what are the hours? ( i couldn't find them) what is the parking situation ? is it wheelchair -friendly? thank you

Hi The City Market is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 6 pm. On Saturday it is open 7:30 am to 5 pm. Yes it is wheel chair accessible but is very steep so would recommend starting at the Charlotte Street entrance and going down to Germain Street exit. You can also go in the elevator into Brunswick Square from the Germain Street exit

Are dogs allowed inside the market? We'll be visiting for a few days in August with our medium sized dog and am planning activities while we're there.
