The Fredericton Region Museum is a small not-for-profit history museum located in Officers' Square, the heart of Downtown Fredericton!!

It exhibits the history of Fredericton in 12 galleries and is the home of the taxidermy remains of the Coleman Frog! Some exhibit themes include Native, Acadian, Planters, Medical, Military and Loyalist history as well as an 18 minute orientation video that tells the history of central New Brunswick. There are over 700 artefacts on display ranging from farm implements to fine art.

Operated by the York Sunbury Historical Society, the museum has a small paid staff. Dedicated volunteers, summer students and interns do most of the gallery work. The time that it takes to visit is dependent on the visitor; some stay for 30 minutes while others stay for hours.

We visited the Museum this summer and were most impressed with the wide variety of well preserved artifacts and displays. There are three floors of displays that take you back thru time and give you a sense of what it was like to live in various eras in Fredericton over the past 300 years. As the museum covers three floors... More

Thank you for your great review, AMcF_12! Our museum is operated primarily by volunteers and it is their passion for history and positive feedback from patrons like you fuels their motivation. It is our hope that one day, our heritage building might be retrofitted with an elevator making it accessible to all who want to visit. More

We attended the annual open house at FRM and are sure to be back again. The staff/volunteers were very welcoming and obviously proud of exhibits and the historical building they occupy. Admission fees are very reasonable and there is something for everyone to discover and enjoy.

The Fredericton Region Museum is perfect for a family outing. In each exhibit there are interactive elements such as costumes to dress up in and historical games to play. My family loved the visit, the exhibits are diverse and interesting, and they give you a great background of Fredericton's history. The Coleman frog is a great piece of Fredericton folklore.... We tacked on a tour of the Museum at the end of our time in Fredericton. It was a good introduction to New Brunswick's history. The video was probably around 25 years old, and should be updated. Most of the exhibits were of a good quality, but again, seem dated. The facility itself should be updated in terms of washrooms.... More

Thank you for your review, ArdyT! Our little museum is operated by a small historical society and though our focus is on the Fredericton region, we do try to introduce New Brunswick's history. We agree with you about the washrooms, they are a source of constant frustration. Our building has just been purchased by the City of Fredericton and they... More

We were very disappointed in our trip to this town - none of the tourist sites we wanted to see open before Canada Day. However, this small local museum was open. It looked rather dingy from the outside, but we paid a nominal admission and wandered through the place. It was actually rather interesting, packed full of all sorts of... More

The history of Fredericton is the history of the Acadian people, half my heritage. I am pleased to see a great little exhibit describing the Acadian experience in this area. From the Frog (a must-see for every visit) to a WWI trench, all set in the old barracks of Fredericton Garrison (very cool inside due to the thick stone walls)... More

When we first walked into this museum, we didn't expect much as the entry is old and daggy looking and signage said it was run by volunteers. We paid the modest entry fee and after seeing one of the museum's key attractions, a stuffed 45 lb frog named Cynthia, we continued upstairs to find surprisingly good and informative displays on...
