admittedly it was cold and there was a bear on the loose, but they need to have more to see here when it is a very important historical site

This point of land over looks the bay and channel into Churchill. It is easy to see why the fort was built here.

We saw the Cape Merry Battery as part of the town tour. They have the Parks Canada red chairs (that are seen at numerous other Canadian Parks), but we could not get close to them for Polar Bear safety reasons.

Lots of history here. Never realized that the first Europeans wintered here back in early 1600 with Jens Munk and that of his party of 65 all but 3 died the first winter before returning back to Denmark.

We visited after whale season to see polar bears. The view of the river and Prince of Wales fort are nice. The Battery isn't much - one cannon taken from Fort across river. The guide was great in telling us local history. Not the greatest...More

There is a short hike to the battery. There are a few cannons facing the Prince of Wales Fort. You can see some Beluga whales in the river in the summer.

I went in the winter on a snowy day after a storm and the hike was awesome. It gives you a taste of the Arctic.
