Photowalks are the best way to see our beautiful city, learn and practice...

Photowalks are the best way to see our beautiful city, learn and practice the basics of photography, and get out of the automatic setting on your camera! In two hours, we cover exposure, ISO, shutter speed, aperture, composition and basic portraiture. You are guaranteed to have a ton of FUN! Lead by a professional photographer, you are given tools, and an opportunity to explore a scenic area (Stanley Park, Canada Place, Chinatown, Gastown, Strathcona and Granville Island) with your camera, and given small learning objectives. Introductory classes are offered during the day, and more intermediate low-light classes in the evening.

Enjoyed the photo walk! I learned that my little point-and-shoot camera has 90% of the functionality of a full-on DLSR! Barbara our guide was able to figure it out and show me.

Both Granville Island and Gastown on two occasions with Barbara and Suzanne. Both were very capable and dealt with me an amateur very well so I learnt a lot of tricks and especially how to use the camera and was pleased with quite a few of my shots. Now going out at night to continue to use what I learnt. Great experience. Suzanne helped me to learn how to use more of the features on my camera. Showed me perspective, composition. Very pleasant. This was my fifth photo tour and my pictures keep improving from the experience.

I did the Strathcona Photowalk with Isabel. It was a great opportunity to visit different parts of town in a very short time. I gained more confidence using my camera.

Attended a night time photowalk with Vancouver Photo Walks about 3 weeks ago. It turned out to be an excellent couple of hours very well spent brushing up on my techniques and seeing the harbour front and gas town areas of the city. Something I may not have done on my own. The tutor was great and worked individually with... More

i was in a recent Granville Island Night photo Walk. I was quite surprised the "walk" was not cancelled although it was only myself. I enjoyed alot with my 'private' photo guide Isabel. She was patient, encouraging and knowledgable. I am quite happy with my 1st photowalk, and looking forward to joining more. i highly recommend this to my friends... More

As it turned out, I was the only one in the group and so I had the undivided attention from Barbara Tili, the Photographer/Tour leader. I have become a lazy photographer in recent years, not using my camera to its full capability. Barbara gave me a 10-minute refresher course in Aperture Priority/Shutter Speed Priority and away we went to the... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
With the recent exodus of massive new building projects hitting the neighbourhood, Chinatown; which has always been one of the city's most vibrant areas; is even more buzzing and buoyant than ever before. Playing host to some of the city's best pan-Asian cuisine, from fusion food to traditional home-cooking, Chinatown has remained faithful to its roots as a space which clambers with shop signs and welcomes diners to the table. More that that, it has a hip experimental vibe to it, with trendy pop-ups and catchall market shops. The biggest of Canada's Chinatowns, it is also home to an expansive Chinese garden whose manicured grounds inspire and delight, its ponds and pagodas drawing walkers in for an stroll. Take in the red streetlights, the playful awnings, and the upbeat air that suffuse this area.
