We always stroll around the harbor area anytime we visit Nanaimo. There are cute little shops and great food or just a simple Naniamo ice cream while you enjoy the boats coming and going. A great place to stop and explore.

The boardwalk is a great walk along the water with lots of action. People with their dogs on leash and shops, restaurants and parks all along the way. Often there is music in the parks and along the boardwalk.

We spent much time visiting the Harbourfront as this is the place where many restaurants and little shops are found. This is also where various inter island ferries are located. If you drive, free parking is available. Often we found live music and other entertainment.

Nanaimo Harbour is great for walking and enjoying the coming and going of boats and float planes. Take time to sit back and relax. You won't regret it.

Walk and take the time to stop once in a while, the air is fresh, the colours vibrant or hidden in the mist, the whole walk from the Bastian to the Marina where the BC ferries leave is worth it. A gem that is underated...More

We really enjoyed this flat, scenic walk. It goes within blocks of the Departure Bay ferry all the way to the downtown casino. Several “temporary “ art displays along the way in addition to the changing harbour views.

I am assuming you are going east-west, Vancouver to Nanaimo. I would definitely call BC Ferries (1-888-223-3779) who are usually most helpful. Go on their website first and look at the routes. Neither ferry from Vancouver... More
