Whyte Avenue (also known as 82 Avenue) is an arterial road in south-central Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It became the main street of the City of Strathcona as it formed, and now runs through Old Strathcona. It was named in 1891 after Sir William Whyte, who was superintendent of the CPR's western division from 1886 to 1897 and was knighted by King George V in 1911. Old Strathcona is Edmonton's main arts and entertainment district, and is also a shopping hub for local residents and students at the nearby University of Alberta. Whyte Avenue, now a heritage area, is at the heart of this district, housing many shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.

So because of business I have spent many hours in old Strathcona on Whyte Ave. It displays with an eclectic charm, not filled with a long history like cities in Europe but quaint just the same. A few choices for the foody in the family...More

We spent a weekend here. The local eateries and shops offer a wide variety where there is something for everyone. We were able to walk from our hotel to all of the areas of interest. No need to drive from one establishment to the next.

So much culture! This is by far one of my favorite streets in Edmonton. Great place to grab a bite or drink or play a game. Lots of cute little shops along here as well for whatever eclectic thing you're looking for.
