Every July, millions of people come to Calgary's Stampede Park to take part in one of the world's largest rodeos and other popular activities such as chuckwagon racing and agricultural shows. The event's origins date back to 1912, when American Guy Weadick, a successful trick roper, got support to host an event called "Stampede" to celebrate the "disappearing" Old West. Since then, the event has grown drastically and has evolved into a celebration of the Old West, while reflecting the modern, multicultural aspects of the city.

Most expensive and crowded day of my whole year. Horrible. People were rude, pushy, and obviously drunk.

we enjoyed a marvelous 5 days during the stampede. The events are split into afternoon rodeos....which are full of thrills and spills as the Cowboys put themselves at risk time and again. Then the evening shows which feature chuck wagon racing followed by the most wonderful colourful show with singing, dancing, acrobats etc etc and superb fireworks. All in all,... More

The stampede has it all, rides for the kids, entertainment while you snack on all the delicious food options and all the carnival games you want. There are bars for the adults, lots of pavilions to learn about all things Canadian for the kids. You have to pay extra for the rodeo and Chuck wagon races and it can be... More

The Stampede is a great outdoor show. No doubt about it. Lots to see and do. Particularly enjoy the baby animals. And the Midway has some good people-watching. We would have given this a higher rating except that yet another animal was injured and had to be put down as a result of the evenings entertainment (one of the horses... More

I love going to the Calgary Stampede... it's a great event full of Canadian culture and cuisine, plus the CNE throws some great parties and love the carny rides... but what's with eating prairie oysters? Not sure I get the whole testicle festival bit... to each their own ;) I'll stick to my beaver tails (the dessert, not the actual... More

Attended many times, besides the Srampede itself at the Stampede grounds for the world's richest rodeo (Cowboy Christmas) and a must see are the Chuckwagon races. There are free pancake breakfasts held daily all over the city simply check in with the Pancake Patrol on Canada's best Country radio station Country 105. At the Stampede grounds if you want to... Calgary really comes alive for the 10 days of the Calgary Stampede. To start the parade is world class with horses and lots of floats. At any given day you can eat and be entertained for free. Pancake breakfast usually with pancakes, sausage and juice. Frequently there is burgers and beans later in the day. High end rodeo with Chuck... More

Dates for 2016 are July 8-17. This 10 day event attracts over one million visitors per year and features one of the world's largest rodeos, a parade, midway, stage show (which is outstanding by the "Young Canadians"), concerts, agricultural competitions, chuckwagon racing and first Nations exhibitions. However, many including myself are opposed to Chuckwagon races as many horses get hurt... More

The Calgary Stampede is a ton of fun with something for everyone! I've lived in Cowtown since 98, and have enjoyed the Stampede on many a hot July night, but this last trip I got to see it through the eyes of a few young teenage girls...and I had a blast! To entertain kids can be expensive though, so I'd... More
