Every July, millions of people come to Calgary's Stampede Park to take part in one of the world's largest rodeos and other popular activities such as chuckwagon racing and agricultural shows. The event's origins date back to 1912, when American Guy Weadick, a successful trick roper, got support to host an event called "Stampede" to celebrate the "disappearing" Old West. Since then, the event has grown drastically and has evolved into a celebration of the Old West, while reflecting the modern, multicultural aspects of the city.

I've never visited Calgary and what better way than to see the city during Stampede season! I came to Calgary towards the end of the Stampede and spent 2 days (third and last day - Friday and Sunday) at the Stampede itself. On the days...More

If you have never been, put it on your list. The huge parade, the chuck wagon races and bronc riding and steer wrestling were hugely enjoyable. The midway not so much but still one of the best in the west. Sadly this year there was...More

Expensive to get in the gates! Long line ups for food especially the popular ones they need more people to work the tills. Expensive tickets for the Rodeo and the Chuckwagon/show. Should have more of an over hang at the seats in case of rain....More

Very, very busy. If you hate crowds, best stay home later in the day. I do have a few tips. We went to the opening parade which was good but...we paid for seats thinking they were somehow assigned. They were not, so by the time...More

This is a once in a lifetime, must-see event. The parade on the opening day is amazing and just goes on and on, and if you like horses this is the place to see them in all sizes and colours, with riders just as colourful....More

It was raining every day except the very first one, the Parade Day. Come Hell or High Water, we enjoy Calgary Stampede every year. We started our day with pink pancakes and strawberries at Southcentre Mall and then took C-Train to Victoria Park/Stampede station. Tried...More

We attended the calgary stampede this year and it was just great!!! The rodeos were fun and the chuck wagon races were quite entertaining. Rodeos are pretty fun with toddlers or kids but the chuck wagon did not seem to fascinate the little one... The...More

The general admission to the Stampede is not that high and it is a good experience if you just want to enjoy the fair. However, the tickets to the shows are very pricy and some of the races are not very interesting for the kids....More
