Great way to learn about Colombian Agriculture, and fun!
Apr 2020
My wife and I toured Panaca on our honeymoon in December of 2011. It was included on the tour we took to the coffee region. The park consists of pavillions dedicated to different aspects of Colombian agriculture. There is a pavillion for cattle, horses, pigs, poultry, dogs, and possibly one for sheep and goats. The tour through the pavillions is organized so you stop for a presentation about once each hour at the various pavillions. These presentations are very entertaining and informative. Our favorites were the dog and horse shows. The park has horse drawn wagons to help ferry you about if the walking gets to be too much. There is also a huge zipline over the park, that I took and was impressed by the length and vistas it showcased. There were restaurants catering to different typical dishes, and we were very pleased with the food and overall arrangement of the facilities.
Strongly recommend, it is entirely in Spanish, so take an interpreter!

Nice park for people who like to interact with animals
A fun park for kids and adults who love to interact with animals.

The park is about 1.5 hour drive from Pereira and cost 20 dollars for the general admission pass. Another 10 dollars more allows you to see the night time horse show. The park has various stations with many farm and domesticated animals to see and interact with. There are also various shows with the animals that range about an hour long. After the shows, you are able to take pictures with the animals for free and get professional photos at an extra cost. There are also places where kids can mount the animals for photos as well. Be sure to mount the buffalo and the horses for great photos. My favorite shows were the cattle display and the country show. I skipped the free horse show, but many people said it is the best show to watch (riders doing tricks and dressage on horseback). However, all show are in Spanish, thus making it difficult to understand for non Spanish speakers.

There are many opportunities where you can interact with the animals at a cost. You can milk a cow, feed the animals, ride a horse/pony, and play with the dogs and cats. Prices varies, but ranged for about 1 to 10 dollars, depending on the activity. There is also zip lining for about 10 dollars as well.

The staff are friendly and helpful, but most of them only speak Spanish. Thus, best to use a translator if you can't understand Spanish. Also, you ask nicely, you may be able to take more photos of the animals in the show (was able to take a photo mounted on a show horse and donkey... Please feel free to tip the staff as well).

There are also many restaurants and gift shops, but expect to be Columbian expensive (but much cheaper than Disney or universal). Didn't try the food, so unable to comment.

While it looks the animals seem to be cared for, I think they can still do a better job in giving them a higher quality of life. Saw many of the domestic animals in small cages and some did look a bit dull. However, found the food to be plentiful for the animals and staff making sure the guests treats the animals with respect.

Overall, had a fun time at Panaca and definitely will visit again. Wished there was a translator for the shows and animals can be a little better cared for. But the many opportunities to interact with the animals makes a fun place. Next time, will take a lesson in trick riding over there.

My 3 year old loved it.
For my girl this was heaven. Birds were amazing... as you can see. You can interact with most. The horses, the cows, the piglets everything was awesome. Will come back!

Could be a lot better with improved animal treatment
Jul 2019 • Family
We love the concept of going to see farm animals especially for those of us that live in cities where this is not an option.
We left deeply saddened by the way some animals are kept & handled. The bull show was great until they started bringing in bulls, that clearly didn’t want to be there, by rings in their noses. I know this has been done for centuries, but this day in age can’t we find something more humane? We had to leave so as not to watch them suffer like that.
On to the birds that were beautiful. In smaller than ideal cages but well kept. But the poor bunnies in small cages, indoors, with bare wire cage material for their paws, so sad. As a fun surprise the ostriches were very fun to watch and feed.
On to the pigs... most were kept in nice pens except for the brand new moms with their piglets. Those poor moms are heavily restricted in movement and must lay on a hard floor all day. Along the road we stopped by a small farm house with a sample herb garden. Such nice and informative people. The pigs in this area were great and happy!
On to the cats and dogs. Great innovation, construction and decoration in these areas. Amazing! Animals were very well kept. Potential to rescue street animals and train them for the shows or offer up for adoptions where the new owners are fully screened as great owners. Rescue from the streets and spay and neuter please - always!
On to the worms — super neat displays and very informative guide.
On to the horses which were amazing. Well kept and happy. Loved petting all of them!
The food is ok but a bit depressing when the menu for each specific area is based on the animal you are petting. For example pork in the pig area?? I don’t know, maybe offer different kids of salads and non meat foods?!
The gardens and trails are AMAZING!!! Beautiful and very informative signage. Hard to walk and impossible with strollers or a wheelchair. Free shuttles or chivas would be a great improvement for some. We would probably still walk so we can touch, feel and take photos of all the amazing plants and insects around.
And finally, the people really make this park worth while. What an amazing cast everywhere we went. They all try very hard to do an excellent job and help guests have an amazing time. For the most part we did except that the animal treatment really has to be revamped to much better standards for each and every single animal that lives in the park.
Oh, and please add credit card machines throughout your park. We would have spent A LOT more as we carried very little pesos.

Had a blast during our most recent visit to Panaca. Something for teenagers down to small children. Lots of history and fun feeding the animals. Do not miss out of the zip line activities!!

Colombian 4h/ petting zoo/ renaissance
Mar 2019 • Couples
Park is similar to 4H fair / petting zoo/ reiassance festival. All shows in Spanish only. Muddy hilly terrain. Beautiful views and drops. Nice landscape. Plan for the whole day open to close. The food is low quality and not a lot to select from. All the photosgraphers all terrible, bad timing, bad angles, poor framing. You start at the entrance with gift shops. You go to the first show with the cows and this one was entertaining even without knowing Spanish. Then you go pet the very diverse cows. The second show requires a good understanding of Spanish a lot of phrasing. It was about how the city depends on the farmers. Then go look at a diversity of chickens. Then zip line. Then lunch. Then pet and see pigs of all sizes. Then watch the pig race show. Then to the cat area pet cats. Then dog area where the dog cages could be improved. Then watch the dog show. Then look at worms in the dirt. Then walk around this long path to the horse area. Or pay 15.000cop to take zip line. All the photographers at this park were horrible in timing and framing and angles. Then to pet horses of many breeds and then watch the horse show which them just prancing around on the horses recommend skipping the show and riding the horses instead unless you love horses. There’s only food in the pig area and cat area elsewhere is just snacks. Yes it takes the whole day.

Gopd choice for families with young children or those who are not familiar with farm animals
Dec 2018 • Family
Panaca is an iconic park located in the "coffee axis" (eje cafetero) that is based around the concept of nature and farm animals.

Its facilities are impeccable and there are several shows for your entertainment. Nevertheless if your family is already familiar with farm animals, you can perfectly skip a visit to this park.
