The famous Volcano of Fire was quiet the day we visited, but the towering cinder cone was an impressive sight nonetheless. There are several places to pull over on the highway, offering a variety of perspectives, but these are not developed overlooks. Be sure to pull well off the road to avoid being rear-ended!

We use to live near the volcano in 2004-2007 when it was only slightly active. Now, things are happening and often.

Where else in the world can you watch an active volcano erupt in steam an ash about every 3 hours? This is well worth a side trip to see. We stayed in Comala, at a clean, safe and inexpensive hostel. The plaza is busy in the evenings. Little shops and cafes around the plaza. We are going back in two... More

The most thrilling experience to be right there seeing it in person! The drive up was so beautiful, all the wild flowers and the view just spectacular. We are going back again before the rainy season! Just Epic!

It's beautiful to hike from La Yerba Buena up the side of the volcano. It's especially majestic in the winter when there's some snow on the top. The view of the volcanoes from Colima are great.

If you make a trip to Colima, about an hours drive from Manzanillo, go through Comala, past the "Magic Zone" and you can get a great view of the Volcano. It seems as if its ready to blow and the people in the area all have stories, theories. fantasy storires, that predict the next eruption of lava. Located near the... More
