I had such a great time at the lagoon--don't miss it to see wild life on the boat trip. Swimming in water that shines like neon when you 'dive in - its just amasing!

This enormous lagoon, 20 minutes from Puerto Escondido, is surrounded by mangrove forest, and separated from the ocean by a narrow sand bar which opens the lagoon to the sea during rainy season, providing a unique environment for an amazing variety of plant and animal...More

The bioluminescent effect is something really cool, it's not as it looks on the pictures in the tour guide's place but it's really amazing, go on a dark day! My friends and I chose the day the closest to the new moon so we had...More

I went on an excursion here and had a blast. The boat ride through the natural habitat gave me a lot of great photo moments of bird sanctuaries, bio fish, etc. Make sure you have on sturdy shoes and some warm enough clothes for the...More

Do the bird watching and phosphorescence because it will give a clear picture of the beauty of the lagoon. Loads of wildlife will take you to where the lagoon butts against the sea with a shack to have a cold drink, watch the sunset, and...More

Just a 20 minute drive from Puerto Escondido, this is a great site for birders. Visited 3 times with a group of friends: guided morning boat trip to see birds, evening bio-luminescence swim, and self-guided morning kayaking. The boat trips can be arranged from tour...More

The short drive from Puerto Escondido is well worth doing with this magical lagoon! Make sure to go after dark if you'd like to swim amongst bioluminescent plankton, and be prepared to be wowed.

I would recommend goofing as late as possible as the darker it is the more bioluminescence will show. Also if your Spanish is good you can go straight to the lagoon and deal the price there as it will be way cheaper than if... More

You can check the lunar calendar to see where your trip falls during the moon cycle. I can not recommend a bioluminescent tour when there is a lot of moonlight, but during the darker 1/2 of the month, others have said it is... More

To hire kayaks, no tour operators are needed, just take a collectivo or taxi to Puesta del Sol lodge/restaurant. Go early, it gets very hot in late morning.
