We took a van with about 10 people out to Manialtepec to see the bioluminescent algae in the lake. The van left at 7:30PM, and drove for about 20 minutes to the lake. Then you get in a boat, which takes you to the center...More

We tour Laguna Manialtepec late afternoon for bird watching and evening for the fluorescent experience in the water. Words can not describe it; unfortunately, cell cameras or regular video cameras can not catch the fluorescent color in the water but the experience is for lifetime.

The bioluminescent water is a must see in Puerto Escondido, we had a great guide and a wonderful boat captain. Everything was very safe even though you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere at night.

If you get to do this tour you should. Amazing! Beautiful scenery that makes you appreciate disconnecting from our very chaotic cold society. Amazing tour!

Eve from Lalo Ecotours was our guide for the morning birding tour. He picked us up on time, 6:30 am from our hotel, and safely drove us in a clean air conditioned van to their business at the lagoon. We are a family of 5,...More

Taking a tour to see the bioluminscent plankton glow of the laguna on a moonless night is perhaps the most magical thing I have done--in my life. Floating in the laguna, water aglow, sky full of stars. An experience to remember for the rest of...More

This is a great evening diversion for people who are spending a week or more in Pto Escondido, but if you want to see the lagoon, go on a day tour. If you want to experience nature while on this tour, ask the tour guide...More

To hire kayaks, no tour operators are needed, just take a collectivo or taxi to Puesta del Sol lodge/restaurant. Go early, it gets very hot in late morning.

We tried to go in December-just last month, but the algae wasn't lighting up yet. This is what we were told so we didn't go.
