Driving up the Selma plateau was a thrill, especially with tween aged boys. We also visited the top "hole" of the deep Al Jinn caves. You can not see much, but we were greeted by a local who showed us the cave, and threw a rock down....as we waited to hear it hit the base of the cave, to demonstrate just how deep it is. Pretty cool. But unfortunately, not much to see. We proceeded on the main path of the Selma plateau according to Oman Off road book we have, and google maps and we got into some major trouble. Although we have a 4x4, we arrived at a section of the road that was big boulders, loose and undriveable. Highly recommended drive up to the Majlis al Jinn Cave - approx 2 hours from Muscat. We didn’t climb down into the caves ... not that adventurous yet, but we loved the drive. Approx 1.3 kms above sea level, a 4WD is a must to drive up these very steep slopes. The views are absolutely breath taking from the mountains and stretch all the way to the coast. We met a very friendly local at the top of the plateau, Mohammad Dilbar, who walked us around to the 3 openings of the cave Chamber. There are no amenities in this area, please carry supplies.

This place is off the route and driving on steep graded road can be challenging. A good place for camping and stargazing at night. Best for cave exploring in oman. Tranquility at its best. Safe trip to all!
