I'm not sure how to rate this museum as art preferences are so subjective, but given the art collection, the historic building, and the garden setting, I think it's a 3.5 - 4. The Goitia Museum is easily accessed and worth a peek if you appreciate paintings by renowned Mexican artists. It's just across the street of the north side... More

This museum had very good paintings by Francisco Goitia and other famous painters. One of my favorite Goitia paintings was on display "El Ahorcado". Unfortunately no photos are allowed inside, however i still recommend this museum if your in Zacatecas.

This lovely old mansion that has been converted into a museum is dedicated to Zacatecan artists with occasional exhibits by other Mexican artists. On two floors connected by a lovely sweeping staircase, the amazing work of Francisco Goitia will certainly catch your eye, as well as works by the brothers Coronel. Allow time to stroll through the lovely gardens as... More

I had never heard of Franciso Goitia and what a revelation I found in this museum. The permanent collection here is excellent and I was very engaged by the temporary exhibit "anida" by Susanna Salinas - an exploration of the nest as nurturer, hindrance and probably more than this viewer is able to put into words. If Mexico's history and... More

The highlight of the museum are the building that houses it and the gardens that surround it. The pieces in exposition aren't very interesting. The temporary exposition, overexposed and overly edited photographs, was worthless trash. Too expensive for the contents, and didn't provide discount for teachers.

I liked the displays of his early works, but the later works left me cold. It is a pity that he former Governor's Mansion they are displayed in has been chopped up with no consideration given to the original architecture.

If you have an interest in abstract painting and sculpture, give this museum a try. The building and exhibit layout is interesting and inventive as well.

I agree with the prior review. This is a wonderful little museum with very interesting art by a number of artists, not just Goitia. It is just slightly off the beaten path at the outer edge of the historic district but worth the few minutes walk to get there.

Francisco Goitia, an important Mexican artist whose life spanned the 19th and 20th centuries, had a tortured and mostly poverty-afflicted life, making it an odd bit of irony that his art should now be housed in such a handsome ex-governor's mansion. But this turns out to be a wonderful setting for his moving portraits and landscapes, for permanent collections of... More
