I chose to get dropped off at Pelican beach when I took a water taxi to see the Arch and lover/divorce beach. I was told if I want to snorkel then Pelican rock is the best place for it. It was very quiet in the morning when I went, but got crowded quickly. The snorkeling was average. Lots of fish in the water but not much else. I got bored quickly and would have liked to hop on a boat to hang out at lover's beach but I never saw my boat again (I took the "sex machine" boat who also forgot to pick me up at the end of the day). There was also annoying flies on the beach which I didn't expect. The small area for snorkeling is roped off as there's boats on all other sides. Water in February was cold but still swimmable. The sun was nice and hot. The sun is gone by 4pm at this beach though. No bathrooms, but there was a few locals selling snacks.

There's a lot to see here! Huge pelicans, amazing geological formations, hordes of fish, sparkling blue waters - you have it all! I recommend stopping by here for longer periods of time if you're into snorkeling.

Yes, you can see the seals sunning themselves and you'll probably figure out who the alpha-male seals are. This area is best viewed by a boat or a tour excursion because the water is choppy in this area.

This view is from the Eastward side as you approach the Harbor, if the wind is from the West, the waves rise several feet above it and come down on your ship.

so if you want to see this in cabo book a sunset cruise. We decided to go with Sea Esta. The food was great and the drinks were even better, we stopped to swim and then got a great surprise when a pod of whales joined us as we headed out to the rock. Worth every penny.

Everyone goes by this site en-route to the fishing grounds just off of Cabo in the Pacific Ocean. Interesting view with lots of birds and other wildlife in the area.

Do you know if once we are done snorkeling at Pelican, if we would be able to get a water taxi to Medano Beach. Also, would Pelican Rock be ok for a 9 year old who has never snorkeled, but is a good swimmer. Thank you so much.

I don't snorkel so I can't help you with that....
As for a water taxi, they are plentiful & can be picked up at the beach.

I'm planning to take my 5.5 years old kid. But I'm super scared of water. How deep is the water where you snorkel ?

The most important point of going into the Ocean 'everywhere/anywhere' FROM A BOAT-
if you are a Non-Swimmer and afraid of the water-
DON'T DO IT!
there are plenty of safe walk-in-the Ocean places and pools if you want the cooling feeling of water, practice with snorkel gear until you become comfortable, because Snorkeling with the fish is a Terrific experience- and it does NOT need deep water-

One more question - water temp???? Is it too cold -too rough to snorkel ?
Kristen F

Water temp is beautiful - not too rough. Snorkeling here is great- very popular spot BUT ... there were a TON of jellyfish in the area. That was not awesome. May have been seasonal. May have just been that area. We did not encounter jellyfish in other snorkel areas. Chileno Beach was beautiful for snorkeling.

Hi we tried to snorkel chileno yesterday morning. It was too rough . Heard from another couple that they had tried 3x & ran into same problem. Staff told us it will be rough the next few weeks. They were just putting red flag up at 9:00 am " Is pelican rock snorkel-able this time of year . don't want to pay for an excursion & not have a good experience .

If Chilean is rough Pulmo will most certainly be. Call first we didn't and took a 2 hour drive for natta. Try Santa maria beach down the road from Chilean it is in a cove and was great when Chilean was rough. Pelican requires a water taxi. Is ok but busy and taxi will tell you if too rough.

Do any of the water taxis or boats have easy access for a older person? Any umbrellas on the beach?

Yes. There are different type of charters. Although Taxis are shared normally, there are also small pangas that can be rented for a period of time with ease of access. Make sure to choose a good and reputable company. I always go with Sushi time. They are courteous and will accomodate as much as possible to garantee you and your party a good time.

My husband and I will be staying at the Riu Sante Fe and I was wondering how far this was from Pelican Rock. Are there shuttles or some type of transportation to and from if it is not within walking distance?
It's really close, you can get there walking, and then swimming but walking on the sand under the sun it's not that confortable. You have quite a bunch of options:
You can go walking to medano beach (about 15 minutes from Riu on the beach) and there you can take a boat that can take you to pelican rock and go back for you after a couple of hours.
You can also take a bus or a taxi to the Marina of San Lucas and take another boat from the Marina that can take you to pelican rock.

How much does the hotel shuttle charge to be picked up at the airport and brought to the hotel?
Rolando Mota Dela Compo
San Jose, CA73 contributions
Most hotel shuttles are free. Do not take a taxi anywhere too expensive. Take the private shuttle, you can find many at the exit of the airport. Most are white vans. I always rent a car, a little expensive, but you can go when and where you want. I scuba dive where ever I vacation. usually need to be at the dive shop early. If you are a certified diver, ask the dive shop if they provide transportation to and from your hotel. Many do. Diving in this area is awesome, water temp is great, the weather is awesome, sometimes a little humid. There is so much to do at most resorts. Take in as much as you can while there, you never know when you will return.
