Medano beach is stunningly beautiful and safe for swimming. We were in Cabo in June and experienced manta rays breaching from the water along the shore line. There is a stretch of beach reserved for turtle nesting. Past Medano beach, there is mass development along the coastline. Hopefully conservation efforts are implemented in those areas to preserve what little wilderness coastline is left.

The beach itself was beautiful. A little bit of a high-tide, but we weren't swimming so no problems. My wife bought a San Lucas hat and cover-up for a pretty good deal; they were willing to negotiate. We did a glass bottom boat experience that was really cool!! We were on the boat La Bruja with Captain Miguel. He took us to the Arch, Lover's Beach (and Divorce Beach on the other side), Pelican Rock, and we saw some "Mexican Water Chihuahuas" (sea lions).
When we got back, we decided to eat at Mango Deck. It looked bustling, but we didn't know what to expect from the place. The food, pretty great! The atmosphere......kind of an adult experience. Not a place I suggest taking anyone under 18. Beware of them pushing tequila and jello shots in your face, and some "light touching" once you take a shot. It wasn't bad, just unexpected because we noticed other younger children there.
We enjoyed ourselves and would definitely be willing to go back.
FYI, we came from San Jose side and with 4 people we took a taxi that was $80 round-trip. We tried Uber, but they all only fit 3 people and would have been $88 if we split cars...so in this case the taxi was cheaper.

The view of El Fin de la Tierra is stunning, and the water is a beautiful cobalt blue that lightens to turquoise at the shore. The sand is a bit gritty and yellow, and although not the white powder one finds in Sarasota, I'm fine with that.
However, the water can be quite treacherous! The undertow is incredibly strong. It will wipe you off your feet and drag you into the tumbling waves in a heartbeat. In many places the beach has a steep incline that enhances the undertow and literally makes it an uphill battle to escape the waves without falling back into that wave rinse cycle.

We stayed at Pueblo Bonito Rose right on Medano beach. Amazingly clear and beautiful water - warm most times. Perfect way to spend your time in Cabo

Great beach close to downtown CSL and marina. Good to get an umbrella and a few beers to relax on the beach and dip in the water.
Lots of vendors selling all kinds of goodies including massage too. Beautiful scenery.

Nice clean beach. Good for swimming. Not very crowded mid week in April. Not too many vendors bothering us that was nice. Had a relaxing day at the beach. Choices of places to eat and drink.

It smelled like sewage by Mango Deck & Casa Dorada. Ate at Casa Dorada got sick. Cabo & San Jose has an issue with sewage smell also. Condos houses have same issue poop smell coming from the pipes in the bathrooms & kitchen. The infrastructure can not keep up with the growth. Rented a house by Costco newer very nice house but 2 of the 3 bathrooms smelled like sewage. It basically smells like poop most of the places.

Maybe it was the time of year (during Spring Break) but a day at Medano Beach was just not all that enjoyable. While it is a very long and beautiful beach, the day we went it was loud, crowded, full of young, drunk American students and chock-a-block with local vendors coming up you every 30 seconds offering something for sale or massages. To be polite you had to constantly respond with "no gracias." I don't begrudge people trying to make an honest living and I hope at the end of the day they earn enough to feed their families, but it does not make for a relaxing day at the beach for a visitor to Cabo.

I really like this quiet little beach. The sand is really deep to walk in and the water is so blue. Gotta watch out for the rip tide, though.

Best way to access Medano Beach for a day if not staying in a resort there?

Drive or taxi to parking area just off beach and behind Tobasco Beach Bar (southern most beach bar along the row of beach bars). Is by the day pay parking, on the dirt, right off beach and at very reasonable rate.
Are there umbrellas available or do you have to bring your own. Or anything available to be covered from the sun

You might be able to rent them on the beach, but most hotels provide umbrellas and beach towels free of charge. Check with your hotel.

Do you have to pay to enter Medano Beach??

No, this is a public beach in which it is the best spot to go swimming. Depends on which Hotel you are staying you can always take an Uber in which it is also much cheaper than a Taxi or you can just take a walk along the beach as we did.

Can you fish on Medano beach? Is there any public beach where you can fish from near the marina??

I haven't seen anybody fishing on Medano beach but there's a bunch of public beaches you can fish on and a bunch of Bluffs or rocks find a guide at the Marina and tell me want to fish off shore. I have a really good local guy down there send me a direct message and I'll send you his phone number

is it a good place for americans or only locals?

It's for both, tourists and locals; perhaps, you will see more tourists than locals, because a few of the hotels share this beach. There is no boardwalk, so it'll be a great chance for you to get your feet wet and sample the sandy beach. Get ready to be approached by the different vendors on foot. Playa El Médano is adjacent to the Marina (ample concrete walkways).

Water taxi to arch and lovers beach $15 pp round trip from Medano Beach - and water taxi to marina $5-10 pp - many water sports kiosks so shop and barter for best price
