We had high expectations, but the reality was scary. I've traveled to Mexico 5 times, Costa Rica, Italy, Greece, France, Japan, Korea, China (twice). Of all those travels, I never felt in imminent danger. But the drunkeness at Batopilas was scary as hell. We and...More

Tiny little village at the bottom of a beautiful canyon. There is a finished, two lane road. However, the inside lane is covered with rocks that have tumbled down onto the road. Drivers treat it like a one lane road. Slightly harrowing.

Driving down is just the beginning of the adventure. The picturesque little town of Batopilas will win your heart. Stay a few days and hike to the "Lost Mission", or just wander the ruins of the old mines and smelting factory. Several small restaurants offer...More

Batopilas Canyon is spectacular. The road leading into the canyon is relatively new, but not well maintained. There were serious rock slides and rock falls that had not been cleaned up. Much of the road does not have structures to prevent rocks from falling or...More

We drove down the 140 KM from Creel to Batopilas in our VW camper van. It was a spectacular trip down but as many have said it was full of hairpin turns sharper than any you have used in your hair and fallen rocks or...More

Went on a 3 day tour to the Copper Canyon and Batopilas from Creel. The descent into Batopilas Canyon from the road is amazing, we had someone driving us so we could enjoy the views. The drive itself is a big part of the experience,...More

This was the highlight to our trip to the copper canyon. You absolutely must make this journey. The road is very good but something you will never forget. We booked a small package through Cesar at Casa Margaritas in Creel who also own a hotel...More

What an amazing trip to the bottom of Copper Canyon. The ride there and back is made up of sharp curves, land slides and ice and snow but worth it to see the views and stay in this quaint remote town. We used S&G Tours

Do this! It's an incredible drive (thankful we had a driver and weren't doing it ourselves). Beautiful views. Not much after you get to town but it's quaint and comfortable, full of 'real' people. We enjoyed it.
