Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

since there haven't been so many people that day, it was pretty cool, it was like a swimming pool. there are so many bats at the ceiling in the cenote :) and the water ist awesome. We liked it very much, to hang around at that place, in the hangmat oder at the benches. Nice place, also since you can easily go there by bike from Tulum (10-15Min)

Amazing place. Wasn’t busy up until about 1pm. Bar and small shop.
Lots of bats and swallows nesting in the cave.
About 10ft jump into the water but it’s worth it.
No health and safety so be careful!
Deck chairs and hammocks about so you can relax.

The senote itself was pretty cool and well cared for BUT the staff there barely spoke english and as we wanted to leave we asked everybody on the staff if they could call us a taxi because we didn’t have any internet. They just looked at us (phone in their hands watching youtube videos) and told us that they didn‘t have the number of the taxi company and also couldn‘t look it up. So we just had to wait for like an hour until a taxi came by. So all in all it‘s a pretty nice experience but just go there if you have your own vehicle…… The staff was not friendly/helpful.

Out of all of the cenotes in Tulum, this was our least favorite. It’s expensive and the awkward part is that you have to shower right in front of the photography desk before entering. Showering in front of four men as a woman is not something I feel comfortable with. It seemed overcrowded, overhyped and frankly there are better options for cenotes in Tulum.

Super fun cenote close to Tulum! There are various options to get into the water. For the most adventurous, you can jump through the smaller holes. The water was definitely deep enough, and the holes large enough that it was exciting but not dangerous. For the medium adventurous, you can jump from various heights into the large hole. It ia still exciting, but brighter, and you can jump in with friends. For the more careful travelers, there is a sturdy ladder, too. Plus, there are tiny nests inside the cave with cute little birds (swifts). Plenty of chairs around to relax in and even a couple animals near the parking lot. Definitely recommend!

This cenote was expensive ($250 pesos pp) and on top of that if you want to take photos/videos they charge you another $200 pesos! Felt like a real cash grab and totally unnecessary.
Cenote it’s self is quite creepy - water is murky and there are bats in the cave. If you are scared of heights this is not for you either - a big jump or climbing down a rickety ladder.
I’d keep driving further up the road - far better cenote lie ahead!

I was suprised to see negative reviews, we had an amazing time. Yes, there are a lot of visitors from around the world, but whenever anyone was hesitant to jump in everyone cheered them on. Together. In all different languages. It was amazing! yes, the side 'holes' are tight, I feel bad for the person who cracked his head, but I would never do those with a go pro! That being said, my 9 year old did them all over and over with no problems. So did I! My 9 year old daughter wouldn't jump, so she climbed down the ladder and still had a blast. We were there for a few hours, one of 3 we did that day. It was really great. They sell snacks/drinks/beer and they have really nice chairs to rest on.

We went today and it was amazing til it wasn’t. My 20 yr old son jumped into the small hole holding his GoPro and wasn’t concentrating and smashed his head on the side. 2.5 hrs at the hospital and a $1900US bill he got it glued and an X-ray and his fin is over as he can’t get his forehead wet for 3 days.
Loved it but be careful.

Don’t be fooled by the photos. It’s tacky & expensive. At 3pm there must have been 100 people all jostling for selfies. And the area surrounding it is full of tat - no sense of natural beauty

Where do you put your stuff like your phone while you swim?

A nice fellow was taking photos of me with my phone so I’m not sure first hand. I did notice people putting their things around the swimming holes, there was a picnic table near also. For the most part, everyone sees everyone, so folks are not likely to steal things. Take a shirt or towel to cover your phone so it’s not exposed.

I understand that the best time to go is in the morning because it is less crowded, but is the water lit up in the morning or just in the afternoon?

Tough for me to say, but maybe I could give a little insight lol. I was there at 9am and close to lunch - the water wasn't lit up either time, but maybe it was just the day or time of year we went (October). I actually went twice because the first time (early morning) I went the water wasn't lit at all. And then it happened the second time. I imagine if you go after lunch you might have the area to yourself for a bit at some point and be around there for the sun to be hitting the water. But if you have enough time, you could go a second time if you absolutely need to - especially given it's one of the cheaper cenotes to visit in Tulum. I'd be interested to know what works for you because all my photos came out with dark water!
