We went into the city on a day trip to get away from the resort. If you have travelled to an island then you should know the feel. It looks poverty stricken with a beautiful coastline. We actually travelled to the local market. We got to see the fish market and spice market which was really neat. You kind of... More

Enjoy walking around San Miguel, eating in the restaurants, enjoying the view and of course, the culture. Not a "party" scene if that's what you're looking for but a shoppers paradise with lots of restaurants. Of course, the typical Carlos and Charlies type places but lots of other options too. I personally love the handcrafted pieces you can find!

I have been to San Miquel (downtown) twice and have thoroughly enjoyed it each time. I highly recommend spending a day in the downtown area just to take in some of the local culture and cuisine. You can find a lot of amazing bargains too.

Part of our Island tour was being driven around San Miguel, and since our guide had lived there all his life, we found out a lot about the city "off the beaten path". If you visit with the cruise ships, I really recommend you either book a half-day tour, or even just take a taxi to a good restaurant or... More

We visited San Miguel a couple times while staying on Cozumel. You can find some good shops if you go off the beaten path.

Going into San Miguel is a must to get the real feel of Mexico. Get off the main drag and go into the shops on the side streets. I felt very safe there and everyone was beyond friendly. Don't let the appearance scare you. You will get hassled to go into shops and buy stuff, so expect that. Just politely... More

We took a cab in from the Melia resort (95 pesos) and walked the town for a few hours. We were told to escape the main strip which has inflated prices for the cruise ships and venture a few streets up which is what we did. We found a local market, lots of vendors, liquor store, etc and made some... More
