ATV Adventure to Jade Cavern

Make the most of limited time on this ATV adventure tour in Cozumel, a great choice for a shore excursion or for those who want to experience multiple island highlights in a single trip. Alongside your guide, drive your ATV through the jungle and down a series of trails to explore caves that make up the Yucatan’s extensive underwater river system and dive into a freshwater cenote. That leaves just enough time to ride through a coral cave and learn about Maya culture.

We were looking for something different to do other than beaches and found this excursion and booked it. We booked a 1:30pm tour and paid $120 for the entire buggy to our family. The meeting place was at Playa Mia (even though our directions said to go to Royal Village Shopping Center), which was closed. The tour guides were friendly and full of knowledge and even helped us practice our Spanish. They provided us with our bandana and it was ours to keep after the tour. It had not been raining lately so there wasn't any muds to play in, but it was still fun ripping down the trails in the forest. Our first stop was Jade Caverns. There's stairs you walk down and the guide gave plenty of information about the water flow and showed us just how clear it was by scooping up some of the water in a clear bottle. The sulfa gives off the impression that the water is an aqua green color. You could smell the sulfa, especially when the water was stirred up. It was beautiful down there. There was an area that the bats like to hang out in the caverns, but they don't come out or bother you. It was neat to see them. They do have a wooden walkway down by the caverns, so no rock climbing. There are 2 areas from above that you are welcome to jump from. Our daughter did the highest one and loved it so much she went again (could have went more times if she wanted). There are steps to climb out. There are bathrooms here and you can buy soda and water here as well. Then we were off to another dry cavern. It is my understanding this is a recent addition to the tour and permission was obtained from the land owner to come here. The stories they told about the mayan ways were very interesting and made this place well worth the stop. The last stop was at the little village of El Cedral. We were told this is usually the meeting place to get the buggys when doing the tour but since there were no cruise ships, we started from Playa Mia instead. We were able to walk around and shop if we wanted. We didn't realize we would be going here so didn't bring much money to buy anything. We did get a coconut from a vendor and after the milk was gone, they chopped it up and flavored it with salt and it was delicious. There's a church from 1848 there that has been remodeled due to a hurricane and also 2 limestone houses that belonged to the goddess Ixchel. It was an interesting story about her and her underground escape route to another house on the property. We had a great time on this tour and highly recommend it. It gives us a lot of background history about the mayans while having some fun on the buggys.

We had so much fun! The snorkeling was great! We got to see a lot of fish and the crew were very good with us. We were the only ones on this excursion so it felt very much like a private tour and we enjoyed that very much! The lunch was tasty and filling. Just be aware of the added price for chips and pick, guacamole, etc. as those items are not included with the meal. The ATV portion was my favorite part!! We went into a Mayan village and saw one ruin, tasted tequila and learned a little of the village history. There are a few shops there and the vendors are somewhat aggressive with trying to get you to purchase something. We were firm but kind as we declined their offers. The cenote on this trip was not clear and the area was quite unkempt. It smelled bad out there as well. That part could have been excluded from the trip for me. The guide was very friendly and answered questions we had about the area. I definitely recommend this excursion for those who like a little outdoor adventure!
