We walked a long way in the heat to see this place and it was worth every hot step.No doubt it was an observatory and was designed and built by local geniuises. To bad it has so decayed.

I loved strolling past this incredible building and imagining life in the ancient Mayan city. This one was one of the most intriguing to me.

This is an amazing structure at Chichen Itza and he name means ‘snail’ in Spanish. Dated around AD906 it’s suggested that the building provided a way for the Mayan people to observe changes in the sky due to the flattened landscape. This is another place...More

Just fascinating to know that this was used so long ago by the Maya. Gives you a real appreciation for the culture and sophistication of the people.

The observatory is one of the main structures in the archeological site. As you walk through Chichen Itza you will find it. It’s worth a quick photo stop.

The Observatory is located in a secondary site, the major site being the one with the Temple of Kukulcan, the Ball Court, and the Temple of the Warriors with the 1000 columns. To get to the Observatory, remain on the dirt shaded path located past...More

Yes. Only a short walk from the pyramid. It's the oldest part of the site I think.
